(More customer reviews)I bought this thinking that I could make wonderful angel hair pasta with zucchini. Wrong. The shreds are so fine that they are only good for garnishing. After putting pesto onto the zucchini it turned into mush. I then tried carrots. Carrots are VERY difficult to do. You must put ALL your weight on it and turn. The shreds are great for garnishing a salad but I can do the same thing with a hand shredder that I already have. I tried apples since my kids wanted to play with it and they didn't have the strength to do the carrots. The apples turned into mush.
I am now looking for a horizontal type slicer that I saw in a Japanese store. Don't bother with this one.

Harsch Gairtopf Fermenting Crock Pot - 10 Liter - ME7420 Review

(More customer reviews)No doubt, this is a very nice crock. The picture on the web shows a taller crock, but the 5 liter size is actually a little wider and "squattier" than pictured. Height and width of the crock did not matter in my case.The crock I received had a few coarse pieces of pottery on the edges of the rims and on the bottom, which caused a deep scratch in my counter top. I used an emory board to smooth out the burrs, which took about thirty seconds. So just be careful when unpacking the crock...an emory board took off the rough spots very easily and did not leave any mark on the crock. This crock is heavy and extremely will packed for shipping. I really hesitated to spend $106.on one crock, but just the fact that this crock has a ring on the top which holds water to keep the contents clean has already made me a believer in it. This is a good size for one person. I would recommend a larger crock for a family.Follow up: This is a VERY heavy crock when full.
Well, after two very deep scratches on my corian counter, I am going to adhere some thick felt or cork to the bottom of the crock. I did not completely remove the burrs on the bottom of the crock and it really messed up my counter. Set it on a cork pad or heavy felt before placing it on any surface. I am loving the results of the fermenting, though!

Also, many mixes don't stick together during the frying process; this one keeps its shape. The taste is flavorful but not overpowering. This product states that it is "a complete vegan product"; however, the 3rd ingredient on the label is "lactose (milk)" and the 4th ingredient is "whey (milk)". Animal products are not vegan! It shouldn't be a hit for a vegan broth search on Amazon, either. I am sending this one back!

Nalley Fat Free Vegetarian Chili 24ct Review

(More customer reviews)I've been a vegetarian for at least 25 years. Nalley's Fat Free Vegetarian Chili is one of my favorite easy dishes. It be heated out of the can or used in a favorite recipe. I like to use mine to make "Indian Tacos".
As another reviewer mentioned, it is loaded with salt. I love salt, but if you are watching your salt intake, this might put you over the top. I've also noticed lately that the cans I've purchased have been more spicy than usual. I am hoping that they haven't changed the recipe. The original vegetarian chili recipe was impossible (at least for me) to tell from the beef version.
That said, the chili is also loaded with protein (15g per serving). It is a great source of healthy protein and fibre. If you liked the original Nalley's meat based chili, the chances are good that you will enjoy trying this one.
I think that meat eaters would enjoy this product too and find a reasonably healthy alternative to the original.

These are appropriately priced, appealing to my dogs and seem to be of good quality. I purchase them regularly when Amazon has them in stock and have probably gone through 25 or more boxes by now. Only problem is the name. When the Dal gets wind of them he definitely lives up to the name.

(More customer reviews)Yum! This is good stuff. I like ajvar in general. It's a great spread or dip for bread and also goes very nicely as a sort of "side salad" with meat and potatoes or rice.
What to compare it to? I would compare it to salsa in a way, but it's also a bit chutney-ish. It's not vinegary tasting, nor is it horribly spicy. I dont think it's spicy at all, even the hot stuff. It's bright reddish-orange and can stain easily too, so be careful!

(More customer reviews)Gits, Kohinoor, Tasty Bites, most of the packages from these companies deliver good spicy, Indian dishes. The biggest problem we find is - either they are not vegan (milk products or butter are considered vegetarian in India), or they have tons of hydrogenated oils and transfatty oils (again, healthy eating is not the norm in India - rather I should say, what used to be perfectly healthy before has become unhealthy as people now have started adopting sedentary middle-class lifestyles).
I am still giving 4 stars as I love the taste and the convenience of quick cooking, but my advice to these companies would be - produce healthier but equally tasty packages, and to the consumers, check the labels and insist on truth-in-advertising from these companies.
This particular product (Pav Bhaji) is tasty, salty and oily - love and cringe at the same time thinking about it.
These are best eaten with rotis, or naans, etc. Instead of bread or rice, we find Mexican tortillas to be an excellent substitute for Indian rotis. Whole Foods sells Chili and wheat tortillas which substitute very well as rotis.

(More customer reviews)The Sanskriti Methi Malai Motia is the best of the spinach-based retort-packaged meals that I have tried, of any brand. Tonight I made brown basmati rice to serve with it and steamed some slabs of tofu on top of the rice for protein, accompanied by some MTR Mango Green Chili Pickle and some (unfortunately no longer available on Amazon) MTR Coriander Leaves Pickle.
The Methi Malai Motia has a nice creaminess and a very complex flavor with a mild spiciness and perhaps a very slight bitterness to balance out the creaminess. There is a good bid of fenugreek and the corn has a pleasantly chewy texture that contrasts with the gravy.
This dish is vegetarian but not vegan as it contains cream. It is also heavy in sodium.
The 10.6 oz. (300g) pouch contains three servings in this instance so please adjust the nutrition accordingly if you eat half of it or all of it, as I do.

Here's hoping Amazon brings back the Sanskriti brand meals.

I still think for the money the best Punjabi mix you can buy is the Surati Punjabi Hot Mix. Too bad Amazon doesn't carry that. You can find it at most Indian stores however or order it in a case of 15 from their website.

(More customer reviews)The Sanskriti Rajasthani Gatta is one of the best shelf-stable retort-packaged Indian meals. It is made in Jaipur, the capital of the state of Rajasthan in northwest India along the border of Pakistan.
The meal consists of approximately six to eight very tasty and dense "black" chickpea (kala channa or bengal gram) flour dumplings about the diameter of a quarter in a good quantity of unique tomato gravy. I think that the tangy flavor of the sauce must be from asafoetida and that the raisins must be used more as a sweetener because they are not a noticeable component of the dish.
This meal is appropriate for vegetarians but not vegans as it contains cottage cheese. It is also labeled dairy kosher. It makes a great vegetarian meal for non-vegetarians because it is flavorful and the somewhat heavy dumplings are chewy and filling.
The gatta curry heats up easily in the pouch in a pot of boiling water. It is traditionally served with Indian bread such as roti but I usually eat it with brown rice and sometimes add raisins and cashews to the dish. If you enjoy slightly spicy Indian food and packaged meals, you should certainly enjoy this.
