I cut up 4 chicken breasts into 1" chunks and cook it, dump in the sauce, simmer for a minute, serve over rice and voila! So fast, easy and gooood. It's a little spicy and full of flavor.
I buy it at Cost Plus World Market.

I still think for the money the best Punjabi mix you can buy is the Surati Punjabi Hot Mix. Too bad Amazon doesn't carry that. You can find it at most Indian stores however or order it in a case of 15 from their website.

(More customer reviews)The Sanskriti Rajasthani Gatta is one of the best shelf-stable retort-packaged Indian meals. It is made in Jaipur, the capital of the state of Rajasthan in northwest India along the border of Pakistan.
The meal consists of approximately six to eight very tasty and dense "black" chickpea (kala channa or bengal gram) flour dumplings about the diameter of a quarter in a good quantity of unique tomato gravy. I think that the tangy flavor of the sauce must be from asafoetida and that the raisins must be used more as a sweetener because they are not a noticeable component of the dish.
This meal is appropriate for vegetarians but not vegans as it contains cottage cheese. It is also labeled dairy kosher. It makes a great vegetarian meal for non-vegetarians because it is flavorful and the somewhat heavy dumplings are chewy and filling.
The gatta curry heats up easily in the pouch in a pot of boiling water. It is traditionally served with Indian bread such as roti but I usually eat it with brown rice and sometimes add raisins and cashews to the dish. If you enjoy slightly spicy Indian food and packaged meals, you should certainly enjoy this.

(More customer reviews)Haanji! Wow...I'm right adicted to this stuff. Gits makes great stuff, and this is one of my favourites. This Punjabi treat, actually it's Methi Matar Malai (Mere dil apna punjabi)....it provides a little heat, but not too much. One thing that the west feels often is that Indian food needs to be spicy always, because it's stereotyped this way. Truth is, Indian cusiine is incredibly diverse in its falvours. This particular product is I think one my Favourite of gits ready mades, and Gits is very good brand Indian food, they're next to H.P. Haldiram's line of goodies. I like this product because, besides the flavour, I can tote it with me, pack some papads, and a mango or jackfruit juice, or even a little badam keseria, and I have some of my heritage with me wherever I go. It's lovely, and I enjoy the fact that it's not overspicy, but yet brings out other flavours. I will be a frequent purchaser of this item. :)

Tasty Bite Peas Paneer & Basmati Rice Meal, Heat & Eat, 12-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) Review

(More customer reviews)I read the other reviews and was greatly excited to order this entree. I have bought 2-3 varieties of Tasty Bite from my local Trader Joes. Most are decently healthy and all are easy and fast to make.
Peas and paneer, as an entree, is bland and without any heat/spice. I am a native Indian so I can handle relatively spicy food. However, this entree does not merit even a 2-chili rating (out of four).
As for food quality, I would suggest microwaving the rice and entree separately. Otherwise, the majority of the sauce seeps into the rice giving it a very unpleasant appearance. If you boil the pouches (an alternate option), you may have even more success. However, most of us buy these because of the ease of preparation, so boiling isn't a convenient option. The rice tastes and looks as it should.
Finally, I do recommend Tasty Bite Entrée, Jaipur Vegetables. I am on box nine of twelve and still not tired. This entree is MUCH spicier - closer to a 3.25 chili rating (out of four). I also favor this entree because it doesn't have the throw-away plastic container in each box. Moreover, you get 12-boxes for a better price than the 6-boxes for the peas and paneer.
I look forward to trying the other Tasty Bites, though I will likely sample the flavors at Trader Joe's before ordering another 6- or 12-box set. No more Tasty Bite purchases from the Gold Box unless I have already tried that particular flavor - lesson learned!

(More customer reviews)The paneer cheese cubes (soft, lightly flavored cheese cubes) are one of my favorite accents in a dish, and Tasty Bite does an amazing job of them. The spinach is blended into the curry sauce, so there are no actual leaves of spinach, it is like a thick saucy stew with the cheese being the only chunks.
It is really delicious and well-flavored, but this dish kind of needs either a piece of bread (pita, french bread) or some rice to go with it to sop up the sauce. I eat them by themselves sometimes but the flavor is so highly concentrated that a little bit of starch to balance it out makes it a really perfect quick meal.

(More customer reviews)This is one of my favorite Tasty Bite entrées. It is spicy hot, but not at all too hot, with a noticeable "curry" flavor. The addition of the cashews makes for a nice flavor note (although I could do without the whole chile pod). I take mine in a mug with a pat of butter floating on top for a just-before-bed stomach warmer, but you could easily pour it over rice for a quick, easy, and tasty lunch, far more nutritious than a bowl of instant noodles. By the way, the combination of puréed greens and green peas is a terrific idea. I'd give this five stars if the peas weren't a little too redolent of the can. And, with the free shipping, this is a terrific price.

(More customer reviews)While this isn't the best ever curry mix available, it IS pretty good. What makes it worth buying is the simplicity. You literally just boil the bag in a pot of water, cut it open and pour it over cooked rice (or noodles) and you're done. Instant curry dinner for one. (or two if you are just snacking) The box is marked "Hot" and it's got a decent level of spice or heat, but it's not hot by my standards, if you're looking for fire breathing hot curry, you'll want to add some spices of your own and do some doctoring here. But again, for a quick curry fix or snack, it'll work fine. There are some small carrots & potatoes in the packet already & they are ok, totally edible. I usually cook a small lamb chop or pork chop to add to the rice for a full meal after a busy day - makes a nice enough cold weather meal with a favorite movie type of thing.

For someone like me who has to pay attention to sodium because it spikes my blood pressure, this was a great find. This product has no added salt/sodium. As such, many will find it bland if they don't add a little salt (the cooking instructions do say "salt to taste"). Being used to not using salt in cooking, I found it tasty enough without adding salt. For salt-sensitive folks, this is a great product.

(More customer reviews)I absolutely love this sauce. It is rather mild and not full of heat, but it is full of flavor. I'd almost call it somewhat sweet. It has a tomato base and contains several popular Indian spices. It is also vegan and gluten-free. I usually cook with this as follows: saute chopped onion and bell pepper in oil, add the sauce and simmer for a couple of minutes, add protein (I use baked tofu), and serve over buckwheat noodles.
I agree with another reviewer about the price though. I can usually find it for four dollars or less per jar at my local grocer.
