(More customer reviews)The spin speed is much less than that achieved with our previous hand crank salad spinner. It does not spin fast enough to remove excess water from lettuce. After a short time, the SaladXPress became appreciably slower. Under the terms of the warranty, it was replaced with what appears to be a new unit. The new one isn't any better than the first. We've given up on the SaladXPress and purchased an OXO SoftWorks hand powered salad spinner.

Think of it as a hybrid food processor/salad spinner. The 400 watt motor can grate or slice fruits and vegetables as well as spin them dry after rinsing. It can also grate and spin cheese, meats and more. With storage space always at a premium, it's the multi-function appliances that win the day.

VillaWare V200 Food Strainer Review

(More customer reviews)In the summer, during strawberry season, I had borrowed one of these terrific machines from a friend at work. He had all of the attachments, so I was able to use the berry screen. I washed the berries, but left the hulls on to see what it would do. Well, I got perfect results when it hulled and de-seeded 9 quarts of strawberries in less than 1/2 hour. The cleanup wasn't much of a challenge when weighed against the amount of work and mess I would have made without it.
I made wonderful strawberry jelly with the juice and pulp, that I still get mention of when I see the people I gave some to. I had to get this machine so I can repeat last year's success without having to borrow my friend's machine again.

(More customer reviews)This ricer is basically junk, due to the very poor quality of metal the top handle is made from (the one you push down on to rice the potatoes). Everything but that handle is very nice, heavy-duty stainless steel. However, when you apply any force to the upper handle (which is made from either very lightweight SS or aluminum), is bends easily, rendering the utensil useless.

Cuisinart Food Chopper, Black Review

(More customer reviews)This is the worst piece I own by Cuisinart. I generally like their products but this thing stinks. My girlfriend bought me this for X-Mas (after I picked it out!). Let me say that I would give it negative stars if possible. I now have to waste time and fuel to drive it back to the store to recuperate the cost. The thing fell apart after 1/8 of an onion--which is, btw, all the space this thing has to chop. Was not sharp enough to cut through the tougher, outer onion layer. P-l-e-a-s-e! I took it all the way apart to see what could possibly "jam" a manual food chopper. I noticed that the blade piece unscrewed from the hand piece. No problem, right? Wrong, wrong! The pieces would not stay together. Needless to say that it almost ruined X-Mas once my girlfriend had to go digging through the trash for the receipt . . .

World Kitchen/Ekco 1045559 Peeler Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this wonderful little peeler for at least a couple decades. I can't recall where I got it and it has no brand imprinted on it. It still works fine and is still very sharp. The problem is that it has become somewhat rusty and badly stained and looks bad with the other tools in the kitchen drawer. So, my wife and I were visiting our local Ace Hardware and noticed this Ekco Peeler. It was bright, shiny and new and we were delighted to find another to replace our aging peeler.
Our old peeler is almost identical to the new Ekco model, except in a few details. I'd say they probably came out of the same factory except that the old one has "Made in the USA" stamped on it. I threw away the new package, but I suspect it would have "Made in China" on it.
Well, fortunately, we didn't toss the old peeler. It's far superior to the new one. It's far sharper and will peel potatoes, carrots and what not all far faster and with less effort. Go figure. This new one is a little piece of junk compared with our old rusted and badly stained peeler. If we ever throw one away, it will be this Ekco model.

10.5" COMMERCIAL RESTAURANT STEAMER RACK / COOLING RACK Review

(More customer reviews)This rack is misidentified as a "steamer" as it is actually merely a cooling rack. The very first time I used it in water it rusted and stained a brand new stainless steel pot I had just purchased for $100. It is cheap pot metal which is not designed to be used with water or with steam. It rusted so fast it seemed almost magical.
An important note:
The company selling this rack through Amazon on this page at time of posting (MV Trading Co.) does not back up its sales. They simply say "we never said it was stainless" as if selling a steamer which can't be used as a steamer is excusable if you don't explicitly claim it won't rust out the very first time you use it. This company is highly unprofessional in my experience and I would recommend avoiding them at all costs.

I thought the handle would be too cumbersome as I have small hands, but it's fine. I like the fact that it stands on a shelf so it won't get out of my site and get thrown in the compost like my previous one.
You can use either hand: the blade can be popped out and reversed for lefties (thank you T. Scimone for pointing this out to me).

I have weak closing strength and pain in my hands which makes it hard to impossible to use the conventional rotating or moving blade type of peeler. This type is called a French peeler or fixed blade peeler and it works great by transferring the motion from thumb and fingers to the wrist and lower arm. Yes, it does take a little getting used to but once you master your own technique it's actually much faster and certainly less painful to use.

KitchenAid Professional Cheese/Food Mill Review

(More customer reviews)Bought one of these in my search for a good cheese grater to replace my sadly inadequate KitchenAid KG301 rotary model (see reviews on this before buying...they capture the problems well). After using this once, you have to ask: "what were they thinking?" The cutting disks can fit into the device both ways though only one way cuts, the disk is difficult to line up properly in the unit, and frankly doesn't cut well with my main use for parmigiano reggiano...it almost powders it. Worse, the circular hand motion needed to grate is fine for, say, a pepper mill for which only a small amount is needed. For this, the repetitive twisting and small yield are unacceptable.
For those of you like me who have and love the superb and unbeaten KitchenAid stand mixers, this device and the rotary grater are not in anywhere near the same quality and usefulness league.
Another cheese grater of no value to me.

Mine is from a company named EMSON and was made in the 80s. I have been searching
for this tool and finally found it.
I make Tabouli which requires fine-chopping parsley into very fine pieces.
After I do the rough cut, I roll over it (and the mint) with this tool.
Bottom line, it eliminates at least one hour of preparation. It's a great helper for under $10.

If you're starting out, going off to college, equipping a cabin or an RV, looking for knives to use when tailgaiting or camping, etc., these are great. An added bonus is that you'll have the experience to help you decide which of the shapes best suits your preference.
While they aren't professional quality, they're good value for the money. They have a range of blade shapes, making them a versatile set. Their color coding can be useful, too.
WASH promptly after use in hot soap and water, rather than put them in the dishwasher. They'll last longer and stay sharp longer, too. (They'll also set you up with good habits for when you do get the full tang forged versions by Henkel.)

The ChefMaster commercial 5-gallon salad dryer will dry 5 to 6 heads of lettuce at a time. This unit keeps the lettuce crisp for longer life and better taste. The most expensive part of any salad is the dressing. Dry lettuce allows the user to use about 1/2 the dressing that would be needed on wet lettuce. This salad dryer comes with handles on the side for easy movement, a direct drive system for the drying basket and sealed gears so food cannot lodge into the gears.
