This is a pretty good Punjabi mix. It isn't as spicy as some of the others and it doesn't have that great of a mouth feel. I still think for the money the best Punjabi mix you can buy is the Surati Punjabi Hot Mix. Too bad Amazon doesn't carry that. You can find it at most Indian stores however or order it in a case of 15 from their website.

Tasty Bite Peas Paneer and Basmati Rice Meal, Heat and Eat, 12-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12)
Average Reviews:

I read the other reviews and was greatly excited to order this entree. I have bought 2-3 varieties of Tasty Bite from my local Trader Joes. Most are decently healthy and all are easy and fast to make.
Peas and paneer, as an entree, is bland and without any heat/spice. I am a native Indian so I can handle relatively spicy food. However, this entree does not merit even a 2-chili rating (out of four).
As for food quality, I would suggest microwaving the rice and entree separately. Otherwise, the majority of the sauce seeps into the rice giving it a very unpleasant appearance. If you boil the pouches (an alternate option), you may have even more success. However, most of us buy these because of the ease of preparation, so boiling isn't a convenient option. The rice tastes and looks as it should.
Finally, I do recommend Tasty Bite Entrée, Jaipur Vegetables. I am on box nine of twelve and still not tired. This entree is MUCH spicier - closer to a 3.25 chili rating (out of four). I also favor this entree because it doesn't have the throw-away plastic container in each box. Moreover, you get 12-boxes for a better price than the 6-boxes for the peas and paneer.
I look forward to trying the other Tasty Bites, though I will likely sample the flavors at Trader Joe's before ordering another 6- or 12-box set. No more Tasty Bite purchases from the Gold Box unless I have already tried that particular flavor - lesson learned!

I've tried the spaghetti & meatballs (which is really darned good), the hawaiin nuggets (which I'd rather not have to try again), and the vegetarian steak... The Vegetarian steak is definitely edible, to the point where I'd be ok with eating it again.
The "steak" bits are quite tasty, have a good texture, and quite plentiful. The biggest issue with the veggie steak is the texture of the vegetables: on the box, it shows all sorts of nice yummy crisp looking veggies... whereas it turns out its really just a gelatneous goo. It's pretty yucky looking, but it tastes decent.
Definitely good for camping, or if you need to eat kosher on a business trip.

I absolutely love this sauce. It is rather mild and not full of heat, but it is full of flavor. I'd almost call it somewhat sweet. It has a tomato base and contains several popular Indian spices. It is also vegan and gluten-free. I usually cook with this as follows: saute chopped onion and bell pepper in oil, add the sauce and simmer for a couple of minutes, add protein (I use baked tofu), and serve over buckwheat noodles.
I agree with another reviewer about the price though. I can usually find it for four dollars or less per jar at my local grocer.

I've been a fan of Tasty Bite's Jaipur Vegetables for a while now, yet if I wanted something with less fat/calories I'd go for their Bombay Potatoes. I always had over looked the Spinach Dal because it didn't seem that exciting. I decided to give it a try recently and I LOVE it! I like it much better than the Bombay Potatoes, which were also good. I ate it as a soup, though I'm sure it would be good with rice and naan.
Even though it is a little more expensive, I prefer Tasty Bite as opposed to other ready to eat Indian brands that I've tried because it has less fat and calories yet is still delicious.

Pre-packaged Indian food that actually tastes like what you'd get at a decent Indian restaurant (sometimes better, depending where you live). I've tried a number of these and they've all been delicious so far. What's even better is the price! Most imported ethnic food items, particularly pre-packaged convenience foods, are much more pricey. These are actually quite cheap. As if that weren't enough, these products are 100% all natural, which to me at least, is very important. No high-fructose corn syrup of hydrogenated oils or MSG or scores of chemical preservatives you can't even pronounce let along identify. And, even considering that, they somehow have the shelf-life of plutonium. I justify buying these 10-packs by telling myself it's part of my disaster preparedness plan :) Come Armageddon, when everyone else is either starving to death, eating radioactive rodents they caught, or force-feeding themselves horrible MREs, I'll have my own ready supply of delicious Indian delicasies to enjoy before I succumb to my wounds!
Last, but certainly not least, is the ease of preparation and speed. These have become a staple in my home and we have them all the time! If you like Indian food but either can't or don't want to make it yourself or go out and get it, then give these a try and see if you fall in love with them as I did!
Ok, one more small sidenote: there are tons of varieties to try. I disagree with the reviewer that said they all taste the same. While some varieties might be similar, some dishes are similar by nature. I haven't noticed any "sameness" or monotony after having tried about 6 different ones. Maybe it's just my highly accute tastebuds? :)

My wife and I love Indian food - I prefer the hotter the better, but she prefers mild with rich flavors. The Tiger Tiger products fall right in the middle as an excellent compromise. We've tried the Chana Masala, Mutter Paneer and Veggie Korma, all with excellent luck, but with a word of advice. If you think of these products as complete meals (as they are advertised), you will be pleased but not blown away. However, if you think of them as an excellent place to start, then the possibilities are endless.
With the Chana Masala, we usually add another can of chick peas and some cilatro or other herb that cooks well. Then we just let it simmer on the stove top for 30-60 minutes. With very little supervision, and medium low heat, you won't have any concerns over burning, and like many "saucy" foods, it just gets better with time. They give this a 3-star spice rating, but it is NOT hot in any sense of the word. I usually add a little chili oil to my serving to punch it up because it adds hot without affecting the flavors.
The Mutter Paneer is excellent as is, and the only thing we have found that we like to add is a very healthy dose of chopped fresh spinach. Spinach is already one of the ingredients, so we just put the Tiger Tiger sauce in a pan and add about 6-8 oz of fresh spinach. It takes about 7-10 minutes for the newly added spinach to cook down, and the result is great.
The Veggie Korma is probably the easiest to doctor up because it closely resembles a sweet Thai curry sauce (in our opinion, anyway). You can add any combination of steamed vegetables (green beans, broccoli, asparagus, carrots, etc.) and protein (chicken, shrimp, fish, tofu, etc.) and you'll almost certainly come up with an excellent product.
As for comments on the rice - it's all a matter of taste. The Basmati Cumin rice packaged with the Chana and Korma is on the al dente side, but this can be helped by adding a little water to the packet before you microwave, and then cooking it a little longer. The flavor is fine, but not very intense. Our favorite is the Basmati Pilau rice packaged with the Mutter Paneer as it starts softer and has a little more flavor to it. We do find that when our creations are done, we sometimes need to steal the rice from an uncooked package, and when we use plain old brown rice the next time, it's not a huge loss.
Finally, one reviewer stated they had lots of sand or grit in their meals. We have probably eaten 15-20 of these so far with zero occurrence of any contaminants in our food.
I'm giving the product 5 stars because I feel it is an excellent tasting product, that when purchased on sale (think $12-$15 per case instead of $25) is an exceptional value. If you are a regimented cook who likes to follow the rules you may not enjoy the more relaxed method with which we experiment. In that case you may wish to try these individually from the store before purchasing in bulk. In any event, I feel you'll be pleased with the results, even if you think you know better. (NOTE: I published the same review on the Tiger Tiger Chana Masala page, too, as it accurately describes all three of the Tiger Tiger products we've tried.)

I've yet to try a Tasty Bite entree that I didn't like, but I recognize that this brand tends to be more mild than many Indian food fans prefer. As for me, I love Indian spices, but am sensitive to hot-spicy foods, so Tasty Bite is a perfect fit. Most of the entrees are very flavorful, even if not especially hot-spicy. The Paneer Makhani has a very mild flavor, that some may find bland. But the paneer is, in my opinion, nearly restaurant quality, and the sauce is nice and creamy. If you love paneer, this is the way to go.
If you're looking for something spicier, I've found the two spiciest Tasty Bite flavors are the Bombay Potatoes and the Jaipur Vegetables.

I am a major fan of Tasty Bite and enjoy these foods almost daily.
I tried this new item hoping for some flavor variety in my TB routine and this product does the trick ! Lots of mushrooms and potatoes with a milder flavor than most of the other Tasty Bite entrees. I was concerned about the potatoes "blanding" out the India flavors but it's the other way around. The potatoes soak up the flavor and enhance the meal. I eat all Tasty Bite meals with rice, and did this one as well.
If you're starving, the package is probably 1 meal, but served with rice it will provide 2 modest portions. This entree has a much thicker consistency than many of the TB meals which I really liked. I really enjoyed it and will re-order the one when it becomes available again at Amazon.
