I still think for the money the best Punjabi mix you can buy is the Surati Punjabi Hot Mix. Too bad Amazon doesn't carry that. You can find it at most Indian stores however or order it in a case of 15 from their website.

(More customer reviews)The Sanskriti Rajasthani Gatta is one of the best shelf-stable retort-packaged Indian meals. It is made in Jaipur, the capital of the state of Rajasthan in northwest India along the border of Pakistan.
The meal consists of approximately six to eight very tasty and dense "black" chickpea (kala channa or bengal gram) flour dumplings about the diameter of a quarter in a good quantity of unique tomato gravy. I think that the tangy flavor of the sauce must be from asafoetida and that the raisins must be used more as a sweetener because they are not a noticeable component of the dish.
This meal is appropriate for vegetarians but not vegans as it contains cottage cheese. It is also labeled dairy kosher. It makes a great vegetarian meal for non-vegetarians because it is flavorful and the somewhat heavy dumplings are chewy and filling.
The gatta curry heats up easily in the pouch in a pot of boiling water. It is traditionally served with Indian bread such as roti but I usually eat it with brown rice and sometimes add raisins and cashews to the dish. If you enjoy slightly spicy Indian food and packaged meals, you should certainly enjoy this.

(More customer reviews)While the restaurants always do it best, these curry pastes are pretty tasty. It's easy to use, fast, and you can add the meat and veggies of your choice. For those of you scared of something spicy, you might use a little less, but for most, it's just right, and for those that like it spicier, you can add a little crushed red pepper. Since the coconut milk has to be added separately, you can also control the fat content--you can go light or go with the much yummier, creamy stuff. For the price, you can't do better--it's affordable, easy, and fun to make!
The panang curry has a nice mellow flavor with some spice and goes quite well with seafood. Some great compliments to this sauce: scallops, shrimp, squid, and fish; if you add all of these, you get an insanely tasy, luxurious meal. Another thing you can do is add a hint of thai basil to cook with all this--it gives it an extra authentic feel and works well with the overall dish!

(More customer reviews)I've tried numerous types of curries from all sorts of different stores - Indian grocers, fancy overpriced grocery stores, spice stores, heck, even Walmart. But of all the different types of curry spice mix I've used over the years to make my vegetable curry, the S&B brand is the best.
Before I moved, I would drive an hour into downtown Pittsburgh to this grungy Asian food store to buy ten of these boxes at a time. However, since I left the area I haven't been able to find any store which sells S&B, so I'm particularly thrilled to see that Amazon has it available.
I know it's weird to get this excited over a spice, but I absolutely LOVE vegetable curry and I make it all the time, so I'm very happy I have a new source to purchase my favorite spice from.
Of course, I should mention that this is a JAPANESE curry blend, not Indian, so if you're looking for more traditional flavored curry, I'm not sure if my review would help. But personally, I think that this spice blend tastes the best. Use your own judgement.

I have been very happy with this brand's Carrot Cashew Ginger soup, Creamy Butternut Squash and the Creamy Tomato. They are vegetarian/vegan, with zero dairy/animal products.

(More customer reviews)While this isn't the best ever curry mix available, it IS pretty good. What makes it worth buying is the simplicity. You literally just boil the bag in a pot of water, cut it open and pour it over cooked rice (or noodles) and you're done. Instant curry dinner for one. (or two if you are just snacking) The box is marked "Hot" and it's got a decent level of spice or heat, but it's not hot by my standards, if you're looking for fire breathing hot curry, you'll want to add some spices of your own and do some doctoring here. But again, for a quick curry fix or snack, it'll work fine. There are some small carrots & potatoes in the packet already & they are ok, totally edible. I usually cook a small lamb chop or pork chop to add to the rice for a full meal after a busy day - makes a nice enough cold weather meal with a favorite movie type of thing.

(More customer reviews)Most people are accustomed to a fairly high-sodium diet (>2500mg). It is everywhere and in places you wouldn't suspect. For someone like me who has to pay attention to sodium because it spikes my blood pressure, this was a great find. This product has no added salt/sodium. As such, many will find it bland if they don't add a little salt (the cooking instructions do say "salt to taste"). Being used to not using salt in cooking, I found it tasty enough without adding salt. For salt-sensitive folks, this is a great product.

(More customer reviews)I absolutely love this sauce. It is rather mild and not full of heat, but it is full of flavor. I'd almost call it somewhat sweet. It has a tomato base and contains several popular Indian spices. It is also vegan and gluten-free. I usually cook with this as follows: saute chopped onion and bell pepper in oil, add the sauce and simmer for a couple of minutes, add protein (I use baked tofu), and serve over buckwheat noodles.
I agree with another reviewer about the price though. I can usually find it for four dollars or less per jar at my local grocer.

(More customer reviews)I really like this product for it's simplicity. Essentially a single serving of pre-made curry in less than 5 minutes - what's not to like? You toss the packet in a pot of boiling water for five minutes, cut it open, pour over rice and you have a meal. It's also possible to microwave this curry, but it's easier if you just boil the packet instead. The flavor is good and carrots & potatoes are already included (also they are not mushy or overcooked) so all you need is some cooked rice and if you choose a little cooked beef, lamb or chicken and you have an entire meal with almost no trouble at all.
My ONLY complaint and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the medium hot should really be called mild. There is no heat at all to this curry - if you want heat, bring your own and add it. This company (brand) makes the same product in a black box that is called "hot" and while I don't consider it truly hot by an stretch, it does have some heat and thus a little more depth of flavor. I much prefer that version to this one in the green box. However, in a pinch, craving a single serving of curry and being too lazy to do all the work of cutting/cooking fresh veggies etc either of these versions will totally work. ESPECIALLY if you live in a place with zero Indian restaurants and no Indian food options in the local grocery stores.

(More customer reviews)Not a western tasting entree by any stretch but a very good Indian vegetarian curry. Kinda hot but very tasty, especially the big chunks of mushrooms. The pouch does not contain what I would call a full meal (but says 3 servings= no womder Indians are so slim)but served over a bowl of fresh rice with a salad does the trick. The next time I make it, I'm going to add some tofu and see how that works. I'll bet it turns out great. Itsmells so good that the house carries the aroma for a long time.
I cut open the pouches and nuke it in a covered larger bowl to leave room for rice. I.d buy this again.

MTR Pineapple Sweet and Sour, 10.5-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 10) Review

I really like MTR products, their Bindhi Masala and Kharabath are my favorites with Roti, and I've had most of their Muttar's and Paneer's; all have been pretty good. I usually buy them at a local India store, but I saw that Amazon was selling them, so I thought I'd give it try. As I was browsing, I saw this Pineapple Sweet & Sour Curry, and based upon my other experiences I thought this sounded really good, so I bought a 10 pack and was looking forward to trying it. Boy was I wrong. I opened one pack and heated it up. It smelled kind of weird, but I thought it may just be the spices, so on to the taste test.... I can't describe the taste, other than vomit or when you burp 20 minutes after eating and get a nice mix of stomach acid and regurgitated food. I thought maybe the pack was bad, so I opened packet #2, warmed it up and guess what?? It smelled and tasted the same. I logged into Amazon to see if I could send this back, but it was a non-returnable item, so I threw them all in the garbage. I don't usually leave reviews; this is actaully my first one, and only because I don't want someone else to do what I did. As a side note, I bought a 10 pack of Kharabath in the same order, and it tastes great as expected. Maybe they discontinued this item, and if so, the reason is obvious.
