Usuba Bocho Review

Usuba Bocho
Average Reviews:

I have to admit that I was amazed at the beautiful quality of this knife--for the price paid, I had not expected anything close. These days, when you speak of knives selling for under $25, the first thing that comes to mind is "China". The second thing that comes to mind is "junk". (Though to be fair, I do have a cleaver and a couple of knives made in that country that are quite good, if not top of the line.) This usuba bocho is made in Japan, has good balance and holds a razor edge. Although it does not arrive exceptionally sharp, a quick honing will make it so. I heartily recommend this knife and also the seller.

Kyocera Revolution Series 7-Inch Professional Chef's Knife Review

Kyocera Revolution Series 7-Inch Professional Chef's Knife
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this knife recently as a work knife at my job. I am a professional chef and I am experienced and well educated on cutlery. This is the second ceramic knife I have bought, the first was dropped by a co-worker and that knife shattered. I love working with ceramic knives because they are the sharpest knives around, period. Nothing is sharper. It glides through food. It requires a bit more care, but if you take good care if it ,it will last a lifetime. This knife is very versitile in the 7" model and very resonably priced. Perfect for meat and fish, slicing, fruit and vegatables. I can cut perfect slices, juliannes, and very fine dice. I laugh when I hear people talk about " my shun knife" or the extremely over-rated "my henckels". They are good all right but very expensive and they will NEVER be as sharp or hold it for as long as a ceramic.

Now, I will say this knife has one thing I don't care for. While the handle is extremely comfortable and feels oh-so-natural( it actually helps cutting in a mechanical sense by design),if the handle is greasy or oily (when cutting steaks from large cuts or dealing with certain fish it can get oily from handeling) it becomes slippery. Not good for a knife as razor sharp as this. Just keep it clean, protect it from abuse and you will have a knife like no other for alooooong time. In a home I suspect it will not be subject to the rigors I put it through, therefore this knife is a great value for the home chef. I would put this knife up against Shun or Henckles or Wusthof any day.

Part of the Revolution series, Kyocera's most popular line, this 7-inch professional chef's knife is one of the longest knives offered in Kyocera's popular ceramic line--perfect for performing a wide variety of cutting tasks, from fine chopping to dicing and paper-thin slicing. It features an ultra-sharp ceramic blade as well as a deeper profile for greater knuckle clearance. And unlike steel blades, ceramic blades will never rust or change from its natural state. A comfortable, ergonomic resin handle provides precise control, while its distinctive shape makes it both easy to find and easy to use.
"I love these ceramic tools. Perfect for prep tasks and quick meals, they're the ones I always reach for." -- Ming Tsai, Emmy award-winning chef

Oh, I just love these!
If you find your lunch-box's content looks healthy but boring: you have to buy those!
You can cut almost anything you want, soft or hard, those cutters do the job.
I've started doing Bento for my lunches and those 6 little wonders were a must. It's great, when you've had a rough morning, to open your meal and have something pleasant to look at. I never thought Bell Peppers and Carrots could be fun to eat, but they are now!
The cutters are really sturdy and will add a nice decorative touch to all your meals. Easy to clean by hand. Not sure I would put them in the dishwasher.
Careful though: use a non-slip cutting board or your ingredients might slip and you could hurt your hands. I say : Not recommended for younger children.

Kids will show a lot more enthusiasm for veggies when they're presented in such appealing shapes. Made in Japan of 18/8 stainless steel, the cutters are approximately 1 by 1 by 1-1/2 inches. Shapes include bamboo leaves, bell flower, cherry blossom, chrysanthemum, plum blossom, and pine needles. Great for kids and adults, the set makes a great gift for any occasion.

I can't say enough good things about this line of Furikake rice seasoning! I've tried all of the different flavors, and there's not a bad one in the bunch. They really add perkiness to everything, and I find I use way less salt. Plus, the good news is there's no MSG, a biggie for mew!

Roland Dried Seaweed Nori, 1-Ounce Packages (Pack of 10) Review

Roland Dried Seaweed Nori, 1-Ounce Packages (Pack of 10)
Average Reviews:

I received this Nori from Amazon.com a couple of weeks ago and for the free shipping and subscribe and save deal, I figured I would give it a shot. Well, I am happy to report I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this Sushi Nori. This Nori is a lovely deep dark seaweed and very crispy/crunchy without being crumbly. I have tried quite a few brands of Nori from my local Asian markets so I am very familiar with Sushi Nori.
This Nori is 100% roasted seaweed with no salt or oils. You get ten packs of Nori and 10 sheets come in a pack, so you are getting 100 sheets of Nori for this price. If you choose subscribe and save that amounts to about $1.73 per package. This *is* a product of China.
The only thing that was a bit bothersome to me was that the Nori packaging has a ziplock type feature on the top of the bag which ends up making it hard to get your Nori sheets out without breaking some of the Nori edges off so I just cut the whole top of the bag off right below the ziplock edge and then keep it in the bigger bag that the ten packages were packed in by Amazon.com.
One of my favorite quick and low-carb snacks for using Nori is to spread a thin layer of Woeber's Sandwich Pal Horseradish Sauce on a sheet of Nori, add an even layer of fresh organic baby greens and half a can of well drained tuna with a few dashes of Bragg's Amino liquid [organic soy sauce] and then roll up like a Sushi Temaki burrito roll and eat! :)

Korean Seaweed Lava Snack Sampler - Original, Green Tea and Low Salt (9x0.18 Oz Packets)
Average Reviews:

They are not kidding when they say this item grows in size. It turned into a huge seaweed salad and I have to admit it is much better than the sea weed salads I have had in expensive restaurants. If you are on the go and want an instant salad and are really a asian food lover this is for you. If you are not used to asian foods I would not start with this product. I have been eating sea weed all of my life and a whole serving of this is too much for me at one sitting. The sauce is good. It adds to the flavor. It is mild you do not notice the plum. I love plum, so I wanted to know if I would, but no you do not taste it. It does improve the flavor. I tried it both with and without. I am going to try mixing this with noodles and stretching it out because one packet is way too much. I think it will be better spread out. It is really good salad. Like I said better than the restaurants. I am going to experiment with it and see what combinations it goes with. The variety of seaweeds is beautiful and tasty. Go ahead and try it if you are not a beginner to asian foods. If you cannot finish it that is okay dogs love the sea weed products my pug is finishing this up for me right now. He loves it.

I bought this kombu with the idea that I would make dashi (Japanese broth) but I found it is also good for making pickled vegetables. I put cukes, daikon, raw green peppers, and anything else that I would like in a crunchy salad, in a glass jar with some sea salt, leaving it in the refrigerator. The vegetables give up their juices and soak in a brine of salt and juice.
The vegetables stay crunchy and flavorful. I put them on hamburgers and in salads. Even on a cracker with some cream cheese!
Shredded kombu (cut it with scissors after it has soaked a good long while in the salad) is a flavorful addition.

Kombu is excellent for meat lovers and epicureans. Konbu ranks at the top among foods in alkalinity, helping to neutralize the acidity prone to occur in your blood from a dietary habit of eating large amount of meat. Algnic acid accounts for 1/4 substances making up konbu, it helps to boost bowel movement and relieve. Konbu contains a high level of potassuum, Although excessive salt intake increase blook pressure, potassium stimulates the dicharge of salt from the human body. Ginger, pickled in sweetened vinegar, has a sharp, spicy-sweet flavor. In Asian salads, it adds distinct, characteristic Japanese flavor; alongside sushi, it provides a crisp contrast to the subtle, rich flavors found in raw fish and smoked eel.

Costy.... I can't afford buying this all the time since I can go through this entire thing in like 1-3 days.
It is an amazing salty snack comparable to chips...
However... it is better if you buy these at an asian super-market. You can buy this for 5-8 dollars at a store...

Nice big sheet size, and it was easier to work with than some other types I have tried that were either too crumbly or the ends didn't stick together well.
The drawback was that these seemed a little chewier than I would like. I don't want the seaweed to take center stage, I want the other parts to be the star of the show. I felt like maybe the texture should have been maybe less hard to chew. The flavor was fine though.
I purchased this brand in a local Asian supermarket.

Delicious sauce. Its really very good, one of the best Tonkatsu sauces you can get I hear, and I agree, its tastey!
however, I bought this for under $4 with tax from the Japanese food store, so this is more then a little over priced. Great product, plenty of it in the bottle, but bad price.

A condiment dipping sauce for Tonkatsu (shown below), Japanese deep fried pork cutlet. The term "Tonkatsu" comes from the word "katsu" meaning cutlet and "tonkatsu" meaning breaded and fried cutlet. The savory, delicious sauce has a thick consistency, and this dish is great when accompanied by jasmine rice. Also see our recipe for Japanese coroquette which should be served with this sauce as well. Bulldog is a very popular brand throughout Japan, and we are proud to offer this product. It's wonderful with not only fried pork but all kinds of dishes, including a dip for fruits and vegetables. Packed in a stylish plastic bottle with cap. This is the type of sauce you can fall in love with so consider ordering two bottles. Product of Japan.

I love these convenient boxes of sushi wraps, so I was eager to try the brown sprouted rice after eating the white rice ones the last couple of years. The brown rice did not disappoint! I actually buy these for my 6 year old who loves to make sushi rolls. It's a great size for 2 kids and it's super easy to use since the rice is nice and sticky. The only thing I don't like is reheating in the plastic container that it comes in, but we just take it out and place a moist towel over it and heat it that way. The flavor of the nori is excellent as well and the kids beg to eat it all of the time. These are not carried at our local Whole Foods so I buy them by the case here on amazon so we are never without.

With the seaweed sushi nori, you have to be careful with, especially the ones from China. A lot of them have added chemicals, or are manufactured in questionable ways. Eden Foods is a company that really cares about the quality of their products from the research I have spent online, reading about their company, from the material they sent me after I inquired, and from finding out that a lot of their Japanese products are imported from Japan from a very reputable company. They do business with companies that produce the products in the traditional way (for ex. their soy sauce, tamari, toasted sesame oil), while maintaining the products integrity. It's pricey, but it's worth the money knowing you are eating food that is safe to eat. This brand is often sold at Whole Foods, and other health stores. I buy several items from their line, especially the toasted sesame oil, all of their various seaweed, soy sauce/tamari, mirin, and some of their noodles. I respect this company and am pleased that they try to keep their products natural...and no...I do not work for this company. I'm just really into organics, and food that is safe for our bodies, and this company gets A+ marks in that category from me.
