(More customer reviews)This is the worst piece I own by Cuisinart. I generally like their products but this thing stinks. My girlfriend bought me this for X-Mas (after I picked it out!). Let me say that I would give it negative stars if possible. I now have to waste time and fuel to drive it back to the store to recuperate the cost. The thing fell apart after 1/8 of an onion--which is, btw, all the space this thing has to chop. Was not sharp enough to cut through the tougher, outer onion layer. P-l-e-a-s-e! I took it all the way apart to see what could possibly "jam" a manual food chopper. I noticed that the blade piece unscrewed from the hand piece. No problem, right? Wrong, wrong! The pieces would not stay together. Needless to say that it almost ruined X-Mas once my girlfriend had to go digging through the trash for the receipt . . .

Strawberry Metal Cookie Cutter Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this cookie cutter thinking it would be big enough to make cookies on a stick. I was very disappointed at the small size of the cutter. Normally I would use one cookie per skewer but because the cookies are so small I would have to use at least three cookies per stick to make it look decent. This product in my opinion is only worth 99 cents.

(More customer reviews)High quality steel olive oil dispenser. Helpful in pouring just the amount you need into cooking vessels or recipies. Don't overfill, or oil will come out the spout when picking up. The bottom seam leaked a slight amount of oil when first filled, then stopped after a day or so. Just enough leakage to leave a slight ring, but this did resolve, and may have been due to initial overfilling. I recommend this dispenser highly.

Beautiful to look at and a pleasure to use, this dispenser delivers an even pour of oil in a satisfyingly smooth arc. The flared top offers a wide funnel-shaped opening for neat and easy refilling. The Tupperware Apple and Grape Fruit Lockers are terrific. I used them, along with Tupperware's Rock N Serve Divided Dish, for my husband's lunches. They are a good size, not small. I peeled and sectioned two oranges for the apple locker and put mixed green and red grapes in the grape food locker. They kept the fruit safe from being crushed and he didn't have any leaks on the rest of his lunch. The apple is also great for cottage cheese or coleslaw and the grape container holds a big slice of pie. We have five sets of these and use them all. They are excellent for road trip snacks. He said he had never received as many comments before as he received on these. Men and women alike wanted to get them for themselves. Now that he is retired they still come in handy. We use them along with our Tupperware 3 Piece Impressions Bowl Set in Red and Green that holds a nice variety of snacks and, for beverages, we use the Tupperware Impressions Tumbler Set outside. Using unbreakable dinnerware, especially with grandchildren by the pool, is a good safety measure and, as a bonus, they look festive. ~ Mrs. B.

KitchenAid Pro Food Chopper Review

Expectation management is important when dealing with these mini-choppers. I have a Vidalia Chop Wizard which is perfect for large amounts of various vegetables, onions, etc. If you only need a small amount this food chopper is both convenient and useful. However you must limit the size of the food you are chopping to perhaps a one to one and one half inches in length and probably no more than about 3/4 of an inch in height. You must also pound the unit with some force to get it to really work effectively. I have carefully watched the Slap Chop infomercial ($27.95 with shipping and handling and an additional $7.95 S&H for the "Graty") and with camera angles that commercial creates a bit of a false sense of just what these products can and can't do. Several people have commented on how difficult this unit is to clean. The cleaning instructions on the box say "Remove container ring and carefully wash with soap and water." This has to be the most misleading and dumb instruction ever! The unit easily disassembles however the instructions on the box offer no assistance whatsoever.
What you need to do is first separate the food container from the unit by twisting the clear plastic container counterclockwise about one inch then pull down. This separates the food container from the cutting unit. Next depress the plunger approximately 3/4 of the way and then twist the sweeper/cover to the right or left pulling down until it separates from the remaining unit. This exposes the blades. You are now fully disassembled and ready to quickly clean and reassemble the unit.
The unit is dishwasher safe (top of DW only). You can use the unit with or without the base however with the base on the unit the food is all captured in the food container rather than on the cutting board.
From my observation this unit appears to be essentially a quality copy of the Pampered Chef chopper at about 1/2 the price. It uses a W wedge blade that rotates and also includes a scraper for the side of the food container unit so that the food doesn't build up on the side. This does not work perfectly but is a nice touch. With a litle practice and with the food size limitation mentioned above you can quickly learn the various techniques required for each of the foods you wish to chop. With a little more practice and some good camera angels who knows, you might end up doing a "Slap Chop" commercial for your friends only with a unit that costs less and works just as well. Just don't throw it over your back into the sink.
To recap, this is a very good mini chopper so long as your expectations are in line with the product's capabilities. However, KitchenAid needs to do better with their disassembly/cleaning instructions.

Progressive Jumbo Potato Cutter Review

(More customer reviews)When I was shopping for this French fry cutter, I read reviews of a number of others. In almost every case, there was at least one bad review, i. e. the cutter wasn't sturdy and broke, it wouldn't cut anything with any hardness to it, it was so small that one must cut large potatoes into pieces in order to get them to fit etc. etc.
I took a risk on this one, because there were no reviews on it. I am happy to report that everything is working OK so far. The cutter is big enough to accept even rather large russet potatoes. As far as ease of use goes, it does take some effort to push a potato through -- then again, the potatoes I have on hand right now are russets, and are fairly firm and crisp. I'm sure that softer potatoes would be easier to push through.
Cleanup is a breeze; the blade grate comes out quite easily, and everything that gets dirty on it is easy to get at. It's much easier to clean up than a mandolin slicer, for example (as well as easier to use).
The one feature that really doesn't work is the suction pad on the bottom. It holds for a second or two, and then the unit pops off the counter. This really isn't a problem, because I just hold it down with one hand while I work the lever with the other.
My main caveat regarding this device is that I'm a sort of a big guy, and I don't have a problem (usually) with muscling things. A dainty housewife might have a little trouble pushing a big potato through this unit; in that case she should probably recruit her husband.
All in all, I would recommend this device for anyone's kitchen, as it sure beats making potatoes into French fries with a knife. My only other concern is that it might break at some point -- but my gut feeling is that it's going to last long enough to make it worth what I paid for it.

Harold Imports Chopstir Review

Even thought the ground beef I had was the cheapest I could find, this tool did an amazing job of breaking the beef apart. When it was almost all browned, I chopped it again with this, and the meat was broken into tiny little particles! This is so much easier to use than a spatula, wooden spoon or fork! And the results were awesome! I love that I could just throw it in the dishwasher and it is clean again! Definitely worth the small amount of money this costs! I might just buy a few more for family!

(More customer reviews)This is a good, quality Y-peeler. I actually prefer a simple straight peeler, but if I were to use a Y-peeler, I like this one. It slices very thin and smooth. It was a bit of a transition for me to peel towards myself instead of away, but I got the hang of it quickly. It does a really good job and the design is ergonomic and makes sense. There is a little hook on the side to remove potato eyes and blemishes - this hook is handy to have on there, but not as easy to use without wasting some of the vegetable meat as it digs in easily, but doesn't come back out so easily. The swivel blade is accurate and catches on the skin easily, making long, even peels. Sometimes the peels get caught up in the blade, especially if you are trying to peel quickly so that is a bit annoying, but you can just shake the peel out, so I may be too picky. I'm just used to my old straight peeler that I operate very quickly. This item is nice enough to make a nice little gift for your favorite cook who likes Y-peelers. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because even though this is a very nice peeler and one of the best Y-peelers I've tried, it didn't convert me completely from my straight peeler.

Having the Scrap Trap on the opposite side of the island makes prep and clean up a breeze without having to continually walk around to the sink/garbage can. Can be used over the cabinet door or drawer. I have mine over the door and it's almost even with my counter top. Everyone who comes in my kitchen is impressed and thinks it's a great idea too. However, it has a smaller opening than I thought. It is a "jam" funnel, whatever that means, but I assumed it was a standard funnel. This funnel has a 1 1/4" bottom opening and is too small for my purposes. However, we are keeping it because it is good quality and may be useful later.

(More customer reviews)This item was actually a gift for my mother but I have had the opportunity to use it a couple of times, and it is awesome!!
Now, I know what some of you are thinking, "How hard is it to slice an avocado,really?" I know! I thought the same thing before I used this tool. This is a great little tool by Chef'n, that perfectly slices nine thin uniform slices of avocado for you and also cuts it away from the skin as it does so!! How cool is that? Definitely worth a buy if you value thin uniform slices that make a nice presentation or if you are slicing a bunch of avocado for salads and burgers all summer long... zip, zip, zip, All done!!
The only thing I would recommend is, contrary to the instructions, start slicing your avocados from the narrower/smaller end. The handle is quite stiff so this makes it easier on you and it lets the tool do all the work. So basically, you squeeze the handle, insert into the avocado and then drag it through, allowing the handle to open up as you go along. Voila!! Perfect slices. Really nice tool from Chef'n!! I also highly recommend their VeggiChop manual food processor, which I did buy for myself, and is so great to be able to process small amounts without all the noise of an electric.

Norpro Mushroom Egg Slicer Review

(More customer reviews)It's about time! I have been wanting this for a long time. This slicer is nice and sturdy. It has blades, not wires!
I have been wanting something to slice mushrooms with. It always seemed logical to me that an egg slicer should be able to slice mushrooms, as well. I would buy egg slicers at the store only to have them break on me with the very first use. I never had even one make a mark on a mushroom. A mushroom! We aren't talking about rocks here. I can't imagine any of those pieces of junk cutting eggs either.
I ordered this one and I am happy! It is good and solid- metal with blades! It is much bigger than the grocery store garbage, too.
Did I mention that it has blades?!
I look forward to many years of service from this gadget.
