(More customer reviews)I bought this knife recently as a work knife at my job. I am a professional chef and I am experienced and well educated on cutlery. This is the second ceramic knife I have bought, the first was dropped by a co-worker and that knife shattered. I love working with ceramic knives because they are the sharpest knives around,period. Nothing is sharper. It glides through food. It requires a bit more care, but if you take good care if it ,it will last a lifetime. This knife is very versitile in the 7" model and very resonably priced. Perfect for meat and fish, slicing, fruit and vegatables. I can cut perfect slices, juliannes, and very fine dice. I laugh when I hear people talk about " my shun knife" or the extremely over-rated "my henckels". They are good all right but very expensive and they will NEVER be as sharp or hold it for as long as a ceramic.

Now, I will say this knife has one thing I don't care for. While the handle is extremely comfortable and feels oh-so-natural( it actually helps cutting in a mechanical sense by design),if the handle is greasy or oily (when cutting steaks from large cuts or dealing with certain fish it can get oily from handeling) it becomes slippery. Not good for a knife as razor sharp as this. Just keep it clean, protect it from abuse and you will have a knife like no other for alooooong time. In a home I suspect it will not be subject to the rigors I put it through, therefore this knife is a great value for the home chef. I would put this knife up against Shun or Henckles or Wusthof any day.

Bonzai Chopper with Bonus Storage Containers Review

(More customer reviews)I received my Bonzai Chopper on Thursday, June 7, 2007 and used it for the first time on Friday, June 8, 2007.

My task was to chop one onion. I peeled the onion and halved it. With each half, it took nearly five or six hefty strokes to get through a rather small onion.

As for cleanup, there are too many cavities for the food to get lodged in. I have cleaned it several times by hand and once in the dishwasher (on the top rack, as instructed). Still, there are pieces and odors of onion in the chopper.

In addition, the blade I used to chop the onion was placed in the dishwasher for cleaning as well. After just one washing, the chopper blade shows visible rust.
I returned it for credit.

Horrible with tomatoes; it doesn't cut through the peel well at all and left my counter soaked with juice. Worked well on apples. You have to cut the pieces small enough to fit under the blade, and by then you might as well keep cutting it with the knife. I bought it to save time during "taco night" but found it to get in the way more than anything and ended up tossing it aside while I chopped the rest by hand. If you only want it for potatos and onions then it's worth it. Other than that, don't waste your time or money.

It for sure is a "one time use only" and the way it is shown on TV is not the way you really use it, not so smoothly - I think they have used an already chopped onion. I would say it is better for soft vegetables such as tomatoes (which also is very messy because of the juice). It was just a waste of money. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Quartered a normal yellow onion, and the machine crushed it instead of cutting it. I could get it to work with the larger grate if I literally put all my body weight on top of it. Piece of junk. I will be returning it.

(More customer reviews)I'm always skeptical about these As Seen on TV products, but since I'm all thumbs in the kitchen, I thought I'd have nothing to lose with trying this one. Lo' and behold, it is by far THE SINGLE MOST USEFUL ITEM in my kitchen next to the microwave! I use it many times a day, for dicing fruit for the kids, to making fresh salads and preparing mashed potatoes. There is nothing easier since you simply place the fruit or veggie on the blade, close the top firmly yet easily, and presto -- you've just perfectly diced! The instructions recommend cutting larger pieces in half or quarters and this helps especially with potatoes. There are two different dicing blades which allow for the real small cubes like onions for egg salad, and the larger pieces great for fruit salads. I especially love the quick pop in and out blade panels, easy to rinse and store. There is a small plastic picker to get the crud out from the blades while rinsing, and this came in handy when I diced apples with skins. The base has rubber stoppers so the unit sits firmly on your counter with no clumsy sliding around. I love this product so much I plan to buy one for all the cooks in my family to make their job in the kitchen much easier. A+ all the way. Get one!

Unable to live with out it, I checked Amazon to buy another one when I noticed this product It appeared a lot stronger. I have since used this item for 5 weeks and it still works great , it is more durable and easy to clean, with the cleaning tool. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the size of the cutting area I wish the hole was 50% bigger.

MIU France 1248 Multi Vegetable Chopper/Slicer, White with Clear Base Review

(More customer reviews)I dehydrate my own banana chips and apple slices and whatnot, and slicing them was not difficult, but it took a lot of time, and I didn't always get all the slices the same thickness, which means some dried faster than others.
I took a chance on this slicer and I'm SO glad I did! The storage container holds a lot of slices, so I can just chop piece after piece, and only need to stop when the container is full. I can fit several bananas' worth or about 3-4 good sized apples. The top pops off really easily, even with slick hands, the bottom has a silicone ring to keep it from moving while being used, and it's VERY easy to clean.
The container pulls apart into three pieces, each of which is easy to rinse (it's dishwasher safe but it's so easy to hand-clean I haven't had to do that). The cutting/pushing plate set comes off very easily, and though it came with a pick-type tool for getting bits of fruit out from between the pusher slots, I found that a good spray from the sink sprayer cleaned it out perfectly well.
I love having the various plates, so you can choose what you want to do with the fruit. You can wedge an apple, and then run it through the straight slicer to get perfect slices for drying.
You do have to cut bananas into thirds for them to fit, but that's SO much better than having to cut each one into thin slices. It works better on just-ripe or slightly green-stemmed bananas; if they're too ripe, the pusher flattens them a bit on one side (which isn't that big a deal). I imagine if you're making banana bread, you could run them through the dicer to get pretty mashed bits, though I haven't done that yet.
All in all, I love this machine. Time will tell how long the blade plates stay sharp; hopefully there will be a way to replace the blades if they do dull, and I hope the company makes some other variations that can be bought as add-ons, like a thicker slice, a thinner (julienne) one, maybe an apple corer that only halves the apple (or only cores it, even), and maybe a waved thin-slicer for wavy chips, etc.
I highly recommend this if you often slice fruits and veggies, especially if you need them to be uniform (like for drying).

This week, I used this product to prepare the following:
Sun: Pizza toppings (olives, mushrooms, peppers, onions)
Mon: Soup (celery, onions, carrots)
Tue: Salsa (tomatoes, onions, peppers)
Tue: Spanish rice ( onions, celery, peppers, tomatoes)
Wed: Pad thai (broccoli, peppers, onions)
Thur: Stuffed peppers (onions, zucchini, peppers, mushrooms)
Everyday: Salad (apples, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, hardboiled egg)
Fri: Apple cake (apples)
Sat: Oatmeal (apples)
The chopper is a little more work to clean than a knife, but MUCH faster and still easy to clean with the included cleaning comb. (don't lose it) Cleaning is little more than rinsing usually. I run it through the dishwasher every few days.
If you don't need to prep a lot of ingredients like I listed or you don't really care if your items are minced/ diced/ sliced into identical shapes, then you don't need this. However, if you do a lot of chopping/ mincing/ slicing and you like it when your finished pieces are all identical (I do!), then this chopper can not be beat. It is very durable but requires a fairly strong push. My children can't push through the same items that I can, but if I take out half the items, then they too enjoy seeing the neatly chopped pieces.
