(More customer reviews)This peeler works great. Blade is very sharp and makes peeling fast and easy. Very safe to use. I thought the handle would be too cumbersome as I have small hands, but it's fine. I like the fact that it stands on a shelf so it won't get out of my site and get thrown in the compost like my previous one.
You can use either hand: the blade can be popped out and reversed for lefties (thank you T. Scimone for pointing this out to me).

Kyocera Swiss Peeler W/Ceramic Blade Review

(More customer reviews)This may LOOK flimsy, but it's a workhorse for heavy duty peeling jobs. Kyocera offers several versions. Mine is this small one. I use it mainly for peeling yams and sweet potatoes, and for shredding carrots to make longish strips to top a salad, add to a sandwich or a bowl of soup. I still reach for the stainless peelers when I want a thin peel. This one can't be beat for those tough-skinned yams and sweet potatoes. Good with mango, too.
Note: I started out with another Kyocera ceramic blade product that admittedly looked flimsy--the thin slicer. That's still going strong, too--six years--though it now has a few nicks in the blade, likely from grit embedded in carrots. Great for making very thin carrot coins, paper-thin slivers of onion and garlic, bell peppers, etc., etc. People who aren't veggie lovers don't seem to mind the extra veggies when they are added to pizza, in sandwiches, salads, meatloaf or stir-fry--you get the idea.
SAFETY NOTE: Ceramic blades are extremely sharp. NEVER put them loose in a drawer. They are also relatively fragile. Wash by hand--NOT in the dishwasher. (An old toothbrush gets in the crevices on the peeler.) It's great to have kids involved in the kitchen, but I don't recommend giving them access to tools such as these. The same would be true for any helper who isn't focused on the task at hand. It's very easy to cut yourself.

Kuhn Rikon Swiss Ceramic Peeler Review

(More customer reviews)I agree with the previous poster. I had my original Kuhn peeler for over 10 years. Despite it rusting in a few spots, the blade remained extremely sharp. The only reason I had to buy another was because this past Thanksgiving, I had relatives over and someone accidentally threw mine away while they were helping cleaning up the kitchen. I didn't notice it was gone until days later when I couldn't find it and the garbage man had already gone by.
I decided to give this one a try and found that although the blade appears to be sharp to the touch, it didnot peel like the original peeler. I had to make several passes over the same areas to peel and even then it didn't peel as well as I have liked. I haven't tried it on carrots or kiwis but definately don't plan on using once I get my new "original" style peeler I'll be ordering here instead. I'd like to order the stainless steel one but I'm reluctant now.

(More customer reviews)Recently ordered this, hoping its blades wouldn't dull over time, like typical metal peelers ... this peeler has a single ceramic blade, which is quite sharp and peels thin sections.
But, the single blade means you can only use in one direction - away from you, if you're right-handed and toward you, if left-handed.
I hadn't really analyzed my veggie peeling directions before but have discovered, depending on the vegetable, some I peel away and some toward.
I briefly thought the blade could be removed and flipped. It can be removed. But it can not be flipped (pegs on the blade and holes in the handle are different-sized).
Kinda disappointed that the blade doesn't flip or it's not a double-blade or they don't offer a left-hand version.
If you peel all your veggies in one direction (the "correct" direction, for your handedness), then this seems like it's a decent peeler.

Whilst on holiday I was making butternut squash soup and racked through the kitchen drawers for a peeler, I came across this wee peeler, tried it and to my amazement it went through the butternut squash like a hot knife in icecream, I was amazed !! I said to my husband I'm either gonna steal this or try to get one on line...I managed to make out the lettering on the side, it said Swiss made, I set about searching and found the exact same peeler on Amazon !! Now I am the happy owner of not one but 6 swiss vegetable peelers lol, one can never have too many, only the best peeler in the world !! Thanks Amazon !

I had reservations when I saw this, as the price was definitely good ($50 for 2 ceramic knives and a ceramic peeler) but never heard of the brand "Shenzhen Knives" (I assume this is a Japanese brand). Am actually pleasantly surprised with it so far. The knives are very sharp (I haven't had to sharpen it yet) and it cuts very well. No problems with any fruits and veggies. The rubber grips I definitely like, as it makes cutting easier on the hand and forearms. The peeler has a horizontal blade orientation, which is a little weird and does take some time to get used to, but other than that no complaints. I would recommend purchase!
