I have weak closing strength and pain in my hands which makes it hard to impossible to use the conventional rotating or moving blade type of peeler. This type is called a French peeler or fixed blade peeler and it works great by transferring the motion from thumb and fingers to the wrist and lower arm. Yes, it does take a little getting used to but once you master your own technique it's actually much faster and certainly less painful to use.

(More customer reviews)I have always hated peeling potatoes and other vegetables, and so when I knew it was my turn to make Thanksgiving dinner, I decided to see if an expensive peeler would make a difference. I bought this one and absolutely LOVE it. I can't believe that a simple peeler could make me so happy, but after all those hand and arm cramps from my old metal peeler, this one makes all the difference in the world. I can peel potatoes in 1/3 or less of the time that I used to, and it requires absolutely no effort -- the blade is so sharp that if you put pressure on it, it'll take off more than just the skin of the vegetable you're peeling. When I had to peel 15 potatoes for dinner, it took 5 minutes and so little effort. It's also ergonomically comfortable, and I love the fact that KA includes a plastic cover for the blade.
This is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets (who would have ever thought you could get joy from something so simple??) and I'm constantly buying it for friends who cook because it makes such a difference.

(More customer reviews)I am consistently amazed at the high quality and low price of all the OXO kitchen products. Though I like heftier knives, this peeler is the best. The only caveat is that it takes a little getting used to the "direction of peel" - towards you, but once you do get used to it (a couple of carrots should suffice) you'll never go back to the classic at your mother's house.

Having been a Head Chef (4 STAR Hotel in Hampton Court - Henry VIII's Palace) in a previous life, I know the benefits of using a highly efficient tool to make a boring repetitive task bearable. After thoroughly researching the market, I came a cross this little beauty. It even makes peeling spuds - FUN ! Shush ! don't tell anyone I said that, as I don't want to be thought of as SAD. It does its job superbly well, and is a joy to use.
NOTE: In use, I found the swivel peeler to be better for rounder items such as Spuds, and the Y peeler better for longer items such as Carrots and Parsnips. Horses for courses.
When something exceeds your expectations by a country mile, then it must be really good. BUY IT NOW, you won't regret it. Its macho boyfriend, the i-Series Y Peeler, is also superb, and is also a BUY IT NOW !
If you buy both, you will make them very happy, as they can then canoodle together in the drawer in the dark !

Oxo Good Grips i-Series Y-Peeler Review

(More customer reviews)Do not buy the i-Series - buy the standard Oxo Good Grips Y Peeler instead. I have both and originally thought "If the standard works this well, the i-series must be incredible" based on the reviews. However, the standard Y-Peeler works much better. The issue with the i-series seems to be that the little nub that keeps the blade from spinning is set ever so slightly too large, which keeps the blade from swiveling far enough to provide a comfortable angle to the vegetable when peeling. Despite the marketing hype, I also find no difference between the blades on the two OXO offerings.

Oxo Good Grips Serrated Peeler Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this product because it was recommend on America's Test Kitchen. I didn't expect much, but I was wrong. The serrations do seem to improve the cutting ability of this blade.
I find that I reach for this peeler more frequently than I do my non-serrated peeler. It not only works well on tomatoes, but also on lemons, asparagus, sweet potatoes and butternut squash. I believe that this peeler could function well as the only peeler in a kitchen.
If you need a new peeler, try buying one of these before purchasing a standard peeler. I have been pleasantly surprised at how well this peeler works on both delicate and hard vegetables.

The real test was tomatoes, and it peeled only skin(he's alot better at peeling tomatoes than I am). The grip is really good; even if you get juices from tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. on your hands, you can still grip it with ease.
