Furi Rachael Ray Gusto-Grip 3-Piece Knife Set Review

I received this set of knives for Christmas 2006 and the larger knife came defective. And since they advertise a "limited lifetime warranty" I figured I go straight to the manufacturer for a replacement. Bad idea. I contacted them in early January 2007 and no one got back to me. Then in early February I contacted them again. When I called they told me to email them describing the issue. I did and after a couple weeks and a lot of frustration I called back. This time I was told to send an email. Oh, what a surprise. I explained that I already sent an email and I was told that they were going through some changes and I was assured that someone would respond to my email this time. So I sent yet another email describing the problem. But unlike the previous emails, this one received a response. The email asked that I submit their return authorization form, which I completed and faxed back. Over two months later and I'm still wondering when this knife will be replaced.
So what good is a "warranty" if you can't get in touch with the company so they can honor their warranty?

Maxi-Matic Elite Gourmet Rice Cooker with Glass Lid Review

I purchased this rice cooker over the comparable model by RIVAL...what a mistake!!! This thing only worked once and didnt do a good job the first time! I hate that we waited a full month before using it a second time because now we can't return it. The thing simply stopped heating and the indicator lights would not work. Please do not buy this thing. Very poor quality, if I had it to do over again I would purchase the RIVAL.

Notice this product description does NOT mention lumens. That is because the light is too dim. If you knew what the lumens were, you would think the price was far too high. Fluorescent lightbulbs put off more light than these panels.
LED is a great way for indoor growing, however these panels (I bought 2 and returned them all) are so low powered that you will not get good results. There are far more powerful ones on Amazon that cost more, but also offer far more light. Do not make the mistake of trying to do cheap LED. You will need to spend well over $100 per LED grow light panel that should last for at least a year. The UFO would be even better (if the failure rate was not so high).
Do it right or don't do it at all. Avoid these low light panels to save yourself frustration.

BENIFITS: This panel has no ballasts to burn out like other plant lights. It does not run hot, just warm. You will not experience unsightly brown burned leaves when they accidentally touch the LEDs. This is common with most other lights that get very hot. This more controlled running temperature reduces the need to water so often and keeps rooms with plants from getting uncomfortably hot in the summer months requiring additional air conditioning. Extreme energy efficiency permits this new LED panel to pay for itself many times over each year in electricity savings. It saves 50% to 90% in energy consumptioncompared to incandescent bulbs or fluorescent tubes. Wide angle projection insures uniform leaf coverage.Scientifically calculated even blending of red, blue, Orange and White LEDs eliminates the time consuming task of repositioning separate colored lights back and forth trying to achieve uniform exposure. 14 to 16 hours per day is all that is necessary for maximum plant health with this wave blended lighting system. This allows distances 2-4" and less between the LEDs and the plants accelerating photosynthesis. Red and blue wavelengths are for growing and flowering of plants. The purity of the LED generated light lengthens flowering periods. These LEDs turn on instantly and can be turned on by hand each day or work well with all standard lamp timers. The design of this new all in one Full Spectrum plant lighting panel allows maximum level photosynthesis food production, growth and flowering all in one. It is the new Full Spectrum system providing maximum plant health, beauty and productivity. These LED light panels are perfect as an all year plant light for permanent plant benches and especially productive for spring vegetable and flower seedling development.Specifications:Body material: ThermoplasticCircuitry board material: Diecast Chrome

7-UP Citrus Marinade, 14-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6) Review

7-UP Citrus Marinade, 14-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6)

A while back I was looking for a citrus-type marinade for chicken to replace the Lawry's that has been discontinued.
The only thing I could find that had the word citrus in it was the 7up marinade.
I have had the misfortune, as have many others, of getting hooked on something only to have it discontinued.
So I decided to order a six pack in case I really liked it.
We marinated some chicken breasts with it and threw them on the BBQ.
We were less than pleased with the result.......of course, I was missing the Lawry's so my expectations were high.
Fast forward a few months.....
We were going to BBQ kabobs with chicken, onion, bell pepper, zucchini and mushrooms.
I looked through my pantry for something to brush on them.
There was a bottle of the 7up marinade.
I decided to give it another try.
Oh my gosh, what a pleasant surprise!
I don't know if it was the vegetable juices with the 7up or what but we loved it.
That was 2 weeks ago and we just had the same dinner again tonight.
Give it another try.

Tiger Easy Indian Heat & Eat, Mutter Paneer with Basmati Pilau Rice, 19.4-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) Review

Tiger Easy Indian Heat and Eat, Mutter Paneer with Basmati Pilau Rice, 19.4-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

My wife and I love Indian food - I prefer the hotter the better, but she prefers mild with rich flavors. The Tiger Tiger products fall right in the middle as an excellent compromise. We've tried the Chana Masala, Mutter Paneer and Veggie Korma, all with excellent luck, but with a word of advice. If you think of these products as complete meals (as they are advertised), you will be pleased but not blown away. However, if you think of them as an excellent place to start, then the possibilities are endless.
With the Chana Masala, we usually add another can of chick peas and some cilatro or other herb that cooks well. Then we just let it simmer on the stove top for 30-60 minutes. With very little supervision, and medium low heat, you won't have any concerns over burning, and like many "saucy" foods, it just gets better with time. They give this a 3-star spice rating, but it is NOT hot in any sense of the word. I usually add a little chili oil to my serving to punch it up because it adds hot without affecting the flavors.
The Mutter Paneer is excellent as is, and the only thing we have found that we like to add is a very healthy dose of chopped fresh spinach. Spinach is already one of the ingredients, so we just put the Tiger Tiger sauce in a pan and add about 6-8 oz of fresh spinach. It takes about 7-10 minutes for the newly added spinach to cook down, and the result is great.
The Veggie Korma is probably the easiest to doctor up because it closely resembles a sweet Thai curry sauce (in our opinion, anyway). You can add any combination of steamed vegetables (green beans, broccoli, asparagus, carrots, etc.) and protein (chicken, shrimp, fish, tofu, etc.) and you'll almost certainly come up with an excellent product.
As for comments on the rice - it's all a matter of taste. The Basmati Cumin rice packaged with the Chana and Korma is on the al dente side, but this can be helped by adding a little water to the packet before you microwave, and then cooking it a little longer. The flavor is fine, but not very intense. Our favorite is the Basmati Pilau rice packaged with the Mutter Paneer as it starts softer and has a little more flavor to it. We do find that when our creations are done, we sometimes need to steal the rice from an uncooked package, and when we use plain old brown rice the next time, it's not a huge loss.
Finally, one reviewer stated they had lots of sand or grit in their meals. We have probably eaten 15-20 of these so far with zero occurrence of any contaminants in our food.
I'm giving the product 5 stars because I feel it is an excellent tasting product, that when purchased on sale (think $12-$15 per case instead of $25) is an exceptional value. If you are a regimented cook who likes to follow the rules you may not enjoy the more relaxed method with which we experiment. In that case you may wish to try these individually from the store before purchasing in bulk. In any event, I feel you'll be pleased with the results, even if you think you know better. (NOTE: I published the same review on the Tiger Tiger Chana Masala page, too, as it accurately describes all three of the Tiger Tiger products we've tried.)

I have been searching for a TVP product for a while now and when I saw Bob's Red Mill TVP on the net I looked for it at Amazon and there it was. I hadn't used it in years, so it was a new learning experience and I got an acceptable burger on my first try, but not quite what I was looking for. With a lot more research on the net I discovered that a mixture of TVP and Vital Wheat Gluten, also from Bob's Red Mill and available at Amazon, will give you a much meatier burger. There are several websites that can help you, one is Vegan Dad, which can give you a recipe that will help you find a better burger that isn't so mushy as TVP can be, also check out Thrifty Living. If you are trying TVP for the first time, don't give up on it. Go out to You Tube and type in TVP burger recipes and see what you can find. Also check out Everyday Dish on You Tube. It is a learning experience for sure.
