I'm beginning to wonder whether any of these were shipped correctly. I just called customer service and was told a replacement would arrive before the 24th. I'm not real confident that I will have it in time to give it as a Christmas gift as I had intended. I have not begun the return process yet, and based on the previous reviews, I'm not looking forward to it either. I would STRONGLY DISCOURAGE anyone from ordering this item from this site.

(More customer reviews)I love the capacity, the allover mesh for thorough draining and handles for off-sink useage; however, there is a lip circling the interior under the handles that annoyingly captures food when the strainer is flipped over to be washed.
So for large items this strainer is fine, but use a regular one for smaller or "flakeable" items that could get caught under the lip like cooked broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, etc

(More customer reviews)Didn't buy this off Amazon, I had it at a local store. A friend told me that she bought one since they have numerous apple trees in their yard. She makes applesauce and said that it worked wonders for her. I bought and made applesauce the next day. It took me a total of 20 minutes to cut, cook and make 1 1/4 quarts of applesauce (it was about 1/2 a plastic grocery bag of apples). I nearly cried. The seeds, core, stem and peel all come out from the open end while the applesauce shoots down the slide. My 3 year old even helped turn the crank for it. Now I can do lots of applesauce in a very short amount of time. My friend has also riced potatoes (for making lefsa) and did 2 large pots in about 5 minutes.
One thing I do know is that you need to clean the screen as soon as possible. The mesh is not stainless steel and will rust if not cleaned and dried off as soon as you are done using it. Other than that, I can't say enough about this product! Definitely a must have if you make your own baby food (which we do), applesauce, jams, salsas, pumpkin puree and just about anything else that you may can. LOVE IT!

the machine is well built, and the instructions were made designed the way you could follow them easily. most products i buy, the instructions do not have empathy for the user who must assemble and use the product.
it worked great on the tomatoes. the seeds, peels and core came out the "discard end" and the pure "pulp juice" came out the front. i processed 200 tomatoes without a problem. bang for the buck, you can't beat the production this machine will give you the tomato season

I love the orange and unlike the previous reviewer, ours has a very white handle. Maybe it's the blue, or maybe they just got unlucky. Bought it for tomatoes to make sauce and juice, but after reading booklet found out other uses such as raspberry juice (we use for homemade ice cream) I used to strain the berries through cheese cloth and clean pantyhose to get out seeds, but with this not only do i get clean juice but more of it as you can reprocess the "waste" several times. I would highly recommend this item. Save yourself the trouble and just buy the extra screens when you purchase the base kit.

It's just about the only thing I haven't been willing to give away - my lack of generosity extending even to both my daughters when they expressed their desires to have it. So they won't be tempted to fight over it following my demise, I thought I would research it to see if I could find at least two blue Zak!s colanders- and possibly more for all my kitchen-visiting friends. Probably more than any other kitchen aide, my handy, little blue Zak! Designs colander is my constant companion. I find myself grabbing it many times daily - to rinse and drain fruit, veggies, or pasta for two. Also, it is light in weight and small, takes little space in the top of the dishwasher, and seemingly is indestructible, having been dropped on my tile floor several times without damage. Because of its pleasing color and shape and usableness, it often finds itself sitting out with fruit or veggies and not put away in the cabinet. I simply couldn't do without my Zak! Roma Food/Veg Strainer Review

(More customer reviews)I have used this Roma Vegetable Strainer for making apple sauce twice. Previously I have used the Victorio strainer (very nice and sturdy, but no longer available) and Back to Basics (stronger than the Roma in my opinion, but not as good as the Victorio - it had a lot of parts to lose and was not rust resistant). The Roma is easy to put together and seems to be rust resistant, but is weak, flimsy, unstable, and doesn't hold on my counter well with either the suction or the clamp.Things I like about the Roma Strainer:
* Pieces attach easily without nuts and bolts
* Seem to be rust resistant (The Back-to-Basics strainer that I bought 15 years ago had some parts that would rust)
* Plastic cone that takes the waste (seeds, core and skin) away is farther from the sauce dispenser, making it easier to have various shapes of bowls.Things I dislike about the Roma Strainer:
* The suction cup does not hold on my smooth quartz counter-top. Nice try, but it doesn't work.
* I have a bull-nose (rounded edge) to my counter-top so the clasp doesn't work very well either - it isn't long enough to reach around the bull-nose. So, it starts wiggling fairly quickly and isn't very stable, with no way to attach it more firmly.
* The handle is much harder to turn than the old Victorio (purchased 30 years ago) or Back-to-basics (purchased 16 years ago) strainers I have previously used. As I turn the handle, the vertical support seems to wobble or bend a bit, as though it isn't very strong.
* The handle seems a bit flimsy.
* Turning the handle is stiffer with more resistance than with the other strainers I have used before. (You tire more quickly.
* I have to run the waste product through 2 x as there is a lot of good applesauce that goes out with it.
The materials and workmanship are poorer quality. Some of the features (fewer parts to get lost) are nicer. Overall, though, my experience is that it is not nearly as good or as easy to use as the other strainers I have used in the past.

(More customer reviews)I was very disappointed with the packaging to start with. The outside shipping box was fine, no dents or problems. But the inside box, the orginal fruit strainer box looks like it was sat on by an elephant. The box was totally falling apart, why would you ship a product in a box that was already destroyed. The plastic bowl to put the fruit in was mashed and dirty, stained from the cast iron pieces. The 'Cast iron' base is the cheapest 'pop metal' my husband calls it. The washer won't stay in place around the handle so the fruit juice will leak everywhere. This was supposed to be a gift. But it looks like the cheapest imitation of a food strainer. I tried to get information to return this product but neither Amazon or ANTonline who shipped the product can 'find' my order. Even with the order number provided on the package and/or Email reciept. Convienent right! Besides by the time you are out shipping to get it here, shipping to return it and a restocking fee; they made sure it is not cost effective in any way to return this product. I am very dissappointed in both Amazon and ANTonline. I have to buy another gift for my daughter in law now. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT. SPEND A LITTLE MORE AND BE GLAD YOU DID. I own a Back to Basics food strainer and have used it for years. It works well. Stick with a better product.
