(More customer reviews)Didn't buy this off Amazon, I had it at a local store. A friend told me that she bought one since they have numerous apple trees in their yard. She makes applesauce and said that it worked wonders for her. I bought and made applesauce the next day. It took me a total of 20 minutes to cut, cook and make 1 1/4 quarts of applesauce (it was about 1/2 a plastic grocery bag of apples). I nearly cried. The seeds, core, stem and peel all come out from the open end while the applesauce shoots down the slide. My 3 year old even helped turn the crank for it. Now I can do lots of applesauce in a very short amount of time. My friend has also riced potatoes (for making lefsa) and did 2 large pots in about 5 minutes.
One thing I do know is that you need to clean the screen as soon as possible. The mesh is not stainless steel and will rust if not cleaned and dried off as soon as you are done using it. Other than that, I can't say enough about this product! Definitely a must have if you make your own baby food (which we do), applesauce, jams, salsas, pumpkin puree and just about anything else that you may can. LOVE IT!

(More customer reviews)I tried the mill right after it arrived. To be honest the scraper is worthless. It's easier to use a spatula and more effective. The grind seem fine enough and I like the ease of assembly. Now the real proving ground to me will be in the longevity of sharpness and how well it works for other projects, but for the money I was a little disappointed.

(More customer reviews)I have an old-school food mill that has made the rounds of my kid's homes and my daughter wanted one of her own. I found this one and liked the idea of changeable disks for a variety of grating and ease of cleaning. On Christmas Day my daughter happily cleaned it and attempted to mash potatoes...... very frustrating process, the potatoes simply spun around with the blades. We tried changing the disk, flipped it over (in case we had it in wrong - which we didn't), put more in, put less in, and finally gave up. We completed the potatoes with my old one in a fraction of the time we had managed to mash about one potato with the new one! It is being returned today!

Bought it for tomatoes to make sauce and juice, but after reading booklet found out other uses such as raspberry juice (we use for homemade ice cream) I used to strain the berries through cheese cloth and clean pantyhose to get out seeds, but with this not only do i get clean juice but more of it as you can reprocess the "waste" several times. I would highly recommend this item. Save yourself the trouble and just buy the extra screens when you purchase the base kit.

It's just about the only thing I haven't been willing to give away - my lack of generosity extending even to both my daughters when they expressed their desires to have it. So they won't be tempted to fight over it following my demise, I thought I would research it to see if I could find at least two blue Zak!s colanders- and possibly more for all my kitchen-visiting friends. Probably more than any other kitchen aide, my handy, little blue Zak! Designs colander is my constant companion. I find myself grabbing it many times daily - to rinse and drain fruit, veggies, or pasta for two. Also, it is light in weight and small, takes little space in the top of the dishwasher, and seemingly is indestructible, having been dropped on my tile floor several times without damage.
