Juiceman Jr. Juicer - JM1 Review

Juiceman Jr. Juicer - JM1

This little juicer is a great intro into the juicing lifestyle. It is a centrifugal juicer meaning the vegetables you place into it are shredded by tiny teeth and the pulp is thrown against the outer wall of the screen and the juice is forced out by the spinning motion. What you get is a fair amount of juice for the vegetables you place into it. I have owned this juicer for over 5 years with little or no problems at all with it. I usually juice every day so that is saying a good deal for a machine that costs less than $100.
I would give it 5 stars if it were not for the following things:
1. It is noisy, I mean lock up the cat because when you fire it up it resembles a jet engine taking off.
2. A pain to clean. It only has 1 moving part but due to the nature of the process food particles fling all over the inside of it.
3. Bogs down with pulpy fruits.
Some hard-core juicing people say that centrifugal juicers heat the juice up and this destroys nutrients. In my opinion even heated a small amount is still better than sucking down soda and pizza any day.
Juice for your health!

Wakame - Dried Seaweed Review

Wakame - Dried Seaweed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As you may have read, seaweed is a good source of nutrients, and has benefits for your skin and hair. Wakame is a kind of kelp (Undaria pinnatifida) and is most commonly found in miso soup and Japanese salads.
If you use wakame a lot, this bag will fit your bill. I've been using this brand for years because it's big and one bag usually lasts me a year or more. Text and texture is comparable to wakame brands I've had in Japan.
There is more than enough dried seaweed here for 50+ bowls of miso soup. Just snip off a few bits of seaweed directly into the hot soup with a pair of scissors and let it rehydrate for a few minutes, then enjoy.
Wakame is also good as a salad. Rehydrate in water for 4-5 minutes, then drain and cut into desired lengths. Add some julienned cucumber, daikon, carrots, and sesame seeds and you have a simple Japanese seaweed salad. Top with a Japanese-style dressing or any of salad dressing of your choice. You can also add some imitation crab leg pieces and mayo, or use the wakame as a bedding for other foods.
Wakame should be eaten shortly after rehydrating, otherwise it'll lose its elastic texture and get soggy.
Product of Korea.

Primal Strips Vegan Meat Alternative Jerky, Hot & Spicy Mushroom Flavor, 1-Ounce Pouch (Pack of 24) Review

This veggie jerky is fantastic! The Hot & Spicy is my favorite, but all are pretty good too. While it's true there is a bit less protein in this variety, there is significantly more fiber (6g vs. 1g for soy protein based flavors). Note: there's a definite spice here, it's not overwhelming, but it's definitely there... as the flavor implies.

I love the taste of tangy roasted red pepper in this soup. It makes for an interesting twist on the boring old tomato soup. This variety is thick, tasty and filling. I like to accompany the soup with Glutino Cheddar Gluten Free Crackers and/or plain low fat Greek yogurt (instead of sour cream). A few points about the size and sodium content:
1) Each box contains 32 oz of liquid. One serving is 8 oz. However, for a filling meal I need double that (16 oz). Even doubled, the soup has only 220 calories and 4 gr of fat.
2) The sodium content is "lower", not "low". Each 8 oz serving contains 360 gr of sodium (or 720 gr for my doubled serving). Regular soups have typically upwards of 550 gr of sodium. Better choice for a healthy person, but not the right choice for someone on a sodium restricted diet.
This soup makes a great work lunch. The container is resealable (the cap is twist off). In fact, it is also sold in 16 oz containers. Once opened, you should store it in the fridge and consume within a week or so.
Enjoy!
PS: The soup is certified organic and kosher dairy, for those to whom it matters.

i love buying maine coast in bulk from amazon because it's like half the price than in my local store. plus i use a lot. great for adding to soup and salad, but you definitely need to toast it first. its veyr chewy when its soft, so definitely toast it. i'm not raw, but i do a lot of raw, so i don't mind that its a little cooked. delicious on salad, ery crunchy and tasty but not fishy. and i've even started eating it straight from the toaster, like chips. seaweed is good for you, why not make it fun?

Bob's Red Mill TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein), 10-Ounce Bags (Pack of 4) Review

I have been searching for a TVP product for a while now and when I saw Bob's Red Mill TVP on the net I looked for it at Amazon and there it was. I hadn't used it in years, so it was a new learning experience and I got an acceptable burger on my first try, but not quite what I was looking for. With a lot more research on the net I discovered that a mixture of TVP and Vital Wheat Gluten, also from Bob's Red Mill and available at Amazon, will give you a much meatier burger. There are several websites that can help you, one is Vegan Dad, which can give you a recipe that will help you find a better burger that isn't so mushy as TVP can be, also check out Thrifty Living. If you are trying TVP for the first time, don't give up on it. Go out to You Tube and type in TVP burger recipes and see what you can find. Also check out Everyday Dish on You Tube. It is a learning experience for sure.
