The seeds arrived in a small, plastic, zip-lock bag & I sowed some of them in a 12" pot along with white radish, white carrot & chamomille seeds. (The pot also contained 1 strawberry & 5 echinacea plants.) I have no idea how well this combination is going to do together, so we'll see. (I like to experiment!) I'll report back later.

Pumpkin Jarrahdale Heirloom Seeds 7 Seeds Review

(More customer reviews)The sales blurb for this type of pumpkin doesn't do it justice. This is an old variety from Australia, the pumpkins are good to store over winter, the skin is a blue grey with deep orange flesh. Excellent to eat as a vegetable (steam, roast, turn into soup, add to stirfry, curries). Plant in ground after last frost and cultivate as other pumpkins, ie plenty of room and feeding. If you only use these for carving you are missing out on a great tasting vegetable and wasting it! Have no idea about this company's seeds, but the pumpkin itself is a good eating pumpkin.

(More customer reviews)I received the seeds for this Italian heirloom zucchini from Fernley, Nevada by USPS on 09/27/10, four days after I ordered them (09/23/10). These little darlin's were sent out the day AFTER I ordered them. Cudos to Renee Shepherd (AND USPS)! Now regarding the order: the packaging states that there are 25 seeds per packet, but by golly, there were 26 in there! (Now, I've had every kind of shipping oops and heartbreak you can think of since the onset of on-line shopping, but that extra little seed put a grin on my face. I can live with that!) They were nice healthy looking seeds, too...not those little, flat, useless ones. Here's to seeing how well they grow...
This was the perfect transaction and order. :-)

When planting make sure your soil isn't soggy, just consistently moist. If the seeds spend too much time in cold soggy soil they will rot.

This tomato really did allow someone to pay off his mortgage. We all should have been growing these before the housing bubble burst. Flavorful, uniform tomatoes should be started indoors 6 weeks before the last spring frost.

Reaching only three inches long this carrot will get your children eating their vegetables. Enough seeds for one fifteen foot row. But if you plant every other week you will have a long season of fresh carrots.

And a false premise, too; to judge a carrot's "goodness" and "naturalness" by its colour can be misleading, as the *original* orange carrot was an artificial product of selective breeding developed just a few centuries ago, for one of the most important political families of the day - the House of Orange. (Carrots actually come originally from the middle east, in a variety of colours including cream, yellow, red and purple).
I am absolutely delighted to find Kuttiger here, after my previous stockist ceased holding it. I encountered it the first year I built raised veg beds, and it remains my favourite in terms of flavour and hardiness. I also appreciate the novelty - if I choose to grow a vegetable rather than buy it at the market, it had better excel in as many categories as possible!
Kuttiger is a heritage variety that was considered a delicacy in mainland Europe in the 17th century - deservedly so, in my opinion. Taste when cooked is fairly ordinary, though less sweet than some of the more common varieties. However, raw Kuttiger has real depth of flavour, a little "carrot-toppy", with hints of celery and parsnip. Texture is firmer than the common orange carrot, though not woody like parsnips.
The short, thick root makes this plant hardy in times of drought, and bolting resistance is good (though a bite on a bolted raw root will hurt your teeth!). Finally, seed longevity is excellent - not a one of my brand new packet of "purple haze" sprouted last year; but the remnants of my kuttiger stock, a stray packet open 3 years and kept in unsympathetic conditions, all took well in my sandy soil right next to the defunct "hazes".
Not the primary choice if you're the type who's prepared to slave for maximum sweetness: but brilliant if you want something different, tasty...and a reliable "side bet" in case the weather gets your pet crop!

(More customer reviews)While most members of my family like orange juice, it's much too sweet for my taste, so for a bit of extra Vitamin C, I opt for a fresh orange instead.
And when it comes to my juice drink, I've always liked the flavor of V-8. Not only does it taste good to me, since it's made from tomatoes and seven other vegetables--beets, celery, carrots, lettuce, parsley, watercress and spinach--it's healthy, also. While I get a hint of all those veggies in my V-8, the celery flavor seems dominant to me ... a flavor I love, incidentally. Whether this is unique with me, I have no idea. It's something I don't discuss with friends. All I know is that I can't help but smile as it slides down my throat. Yum ...
Another thing I like about V-8 is that since the kids in the family don't like it (sorry, Campbell's), I never have to worry about running out. But what I don't like about it is that it's high in sodium, thus requiring that I limit myself to 4 ounces every other day.
I know! I know! They make low-sodium V-8, but I've tried it and it's not for me. Just doesn't taste the same! However, in addition to my favorite, the Original, Campbell's also makes several other varieties: Spicy, Lemon, Picante, Low-Sodium, and Organic. I'm also a person who likes "lemon" flavor (such as lemon-meringue pie), so I plan to try the lemon soon.
There's something for everybody, so try it! You might like it! I certainly do! (Since I love the taste of this product so much, I feel guilty giving it a four-star, but I had to knock off one point due to the high-sodium factor.)
