Kale Siberian Heirloom Seeds 175 Seeds Review

Kale Siberian Heirloom Seeds 175 Seeds

This kale has been great, although a little more bitter tasting than I anticipated. It is not for the faint hearted! Garden snails love it, but I just soak the leaves in a tub of water with a tsp. bleach and it kills them and their eggs. All the seeds were viable. I planted them in a more moist area of the garden, and also a sandy/dry area, and both places it did excellent. Greensmoothiegirl.com has some great recipes for using kale in smoothies, and the energy kale gives you is UNBELIEVABLE. Kale is a garden essential, it packs the most nutrition ever. And, now that we've had our first frost it is taking on more flavor. And it looks kind pretty.

Introduced well over a hundred years ago by Russian traders this vegetable is one of the most nutritious greens available. Although you can use it in stews and soups it is easier and quicker to just sautee with olive oil and garlic. Like most greens it likes the cool seasons to perform its best. This packet contains enough seeds for a 25 foot row.

Pumpkin Jarrahdale Heirloom Seeds 7 Seeds Review

The sales blurb for this type of pumpkin doesn't do it justice. This is an old variety from Australia, the pumpkins are good to store over winter, the skin is a blue grey with deep orange flesh. Excellent to eat as a vegetable (steam, roast, turn into soup, add to stirfry, curries). Plant in ground after last frost and cultivate as other pumpkins, ie plenty of room and feeding. If you only use these for carving you are missing out on a great tasting vegetable and wasting it! Have no idea about this company's seeds, but the pumpkin itself is a good eating pumpkin.

Italian Summer Squash Seeds - Trombetta di Albenga Review

Italian Summer Squash Seeds - Trombetta di Albenga
Average Reviews:

I received the seeds for this Italian heirloom zucchini from Fernley, Nevada by USPS on 09/27/10, four days after I ordered them (09/23/10). These little darlin's were sent out the day AFTER I ordered them. Cudos to Renee Shepherd (AND USPS)! Now regarding the order: the packaging states that there are 25 seeds per packet, but by golly, there were 26 in there! (Now, I've had every kind of shipping oops and heartbreak you can think of since the onset of on-line shopping, but that extra little seed put a grin on my face. I can live with that!) They were nice healthy looking seeds, too...not those little, flat, useless ones. Here's to seeing how well they grow...
This was the perfect transaction and order. :-)

Order came in very quickly, however the germination rate is extremely low. I am using a hydroponic system in which everything else germinates quickly and efficiently, and these seeds just don't really want to grow.

Sow these seeds where they will remain as cilantro resents transplanting and will bolt, go to seed much faster than it needs to. The fabulous taste of Cilantro leaves then turns into Coriander seeds. This is an easy seed for beginners and so tasty.

I had recently purchased a pot full of various lettuce types and had hoped to grow a similar one of my own with this lettuce mix. I planted them, but nothing came up. It could have been the heat of the deck, but we water every day and the Mediterranean cucumbers came up great. Usually lettuce is easy to grow, but I guess that this type is a little more difficult or needs specific growing conditions.

I have been growing vegges indoors and out for years. The quality of seeds from Hirts Gardens seem to be of the highest quality as compared to many online and in store places. The germination rate is the highest... it seems every seed germinates and much time is spent thinning.
Also, I believe Hirts Gardens is #1 here at Amazon in speed - getting the order processed.

Common Sorrel Rumex Acetosa Seeds 450 Seeds Review

Common Sorrel Rumex Acetosa Seeds 450 Seeds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Any of several varieties of a hardy perennial herb in the buckwheat family, all with some degree of acidity and sourness. Sorrel has a sharp, lemony taste. The most strongly flavored variety is garden or belleville sorrel, also called sour dock and sour grass. The mildest variety is dock sorrel (spinach dock or herb patience dock). As sorrel matures it becomes more acidic. Sorrel leaves are shaped like spinach leaves and range in color from pale to dark green. The leaves are very high in vitamin C and have many uses. Young, tender spring leaves can be used as a salad green, and are also used in cream of sorrel soup. Sorrel can be cooked like spinach, or mixed with cooked spinach or chard for a sharp, lemony flavor. Fresh leaves are used by some to soothe canker sores.

The melons I got from this plant were NOT pear shaped like the picture indicates. Instead they were more like a bowling ball. The skin is very dark green with bright yellow spots. At the very least it is interesting. I found the flesh to be sweet and juicy. They are smaller then the standard watermellon. For me, the "ripe" product was somewhat anemic in color AND flavor.
