If you want a chopper, this does a good job. But if you expect more, maybe you shouldn't buy it.

(More customer reviews)When I decided to purchase this product, there were only two reviews and both were all right, so I thought I would give it a try. I was specifically looking for something to chop organic matter just a little bit smaller before it went out into the compost bucket on my back porch. In other words, I was not looking for food to be cut very small or uniformly and this processor still doesn't perform-- even after I do most of the chopping for it first. Instead of real chopping blades, it simply has two razor blades. They don't cut much, but after just a few spins they invariably get stuck on something really tough. You know. Like a leaf of spinach or piece of pear. The manufacturers should have just saved the plastic and left the nonskid ring off the bottom; it works so poorly for keeping the processor in place, I exert more effort holding it in place than I do turning the handle.
Don't waste the money on this one!

The minis didn't prove as versatile as Oskar, had much shorter short lives, and weren't that mini. So I've returned to my first love-- Oskar.

Cuisinart MM-2M Mini Mate Chopper / Grinder Review

(More customer reviews)I tried two other small food processors, the KitchenAid Chef's Chopper and the Cuisinart Mini-Prep Plus for making two to four servings of pesto, cilantro sauce etc, but pureeing these small amounts of ingredients in the approximately 3 cup work bowls was difficult because the blade throws the ingredients on the sides. Scraping the ingredients down several times helps but the finished product was still not smooth enough.
The MM-2M works much better for making these small amounts of sauces. You still have to scrape the ingredients down once or twice but the puree is much smoother. The blades turn much faster than the other two processors and there are also two speeds. You can reverse the blade holder to choose a blunt or sharp leading edge. The blunt edge works well for pureeing.
The unfortunate drawback to this processor is that the motor housing forms the top of the work bowl. As a result, quite a bit of the finished product ends up coating the end of the motor housing. If you are not extremely careful when cleaning the motor housing you will get water and perhaps food into it. If you're just chopping relatively dry ingredients like coffee or dry spices, this would not be so much of a problem.

Electric Food Mill Review

(More customer reviews)This does a great job of converting small to medium quantities of food into a consistency that is perfect for our 6 month old daughter. We had used the hand crank thing but that was a pain. This is also preferable to a blender because when preparing smaller quantities as the results are more uniform and there is less lost to the equipment.
My only reservation was the comment about the lack of an on/off switch. I was about to run to the hardware store (quick as a bunny) and buy one to add to the line cord. However my wife, no stranger to a kitchen, pointed out that this food mill works just like... a food mill. It only goes on when you place the motor housing on top of the container *and* press down. That is the on/off switch. Adding something else would only make the thing more difficult to operate than it needs to be. In fact, we leave the motor housing plugged in all the time. When it's our daughter's dinner time we fill the container with stuff, set the housing on top of the container, and press down. A few seconds later we have a nourishing and freshly made meal for her. (We usually make a little extra and add it to our dog's food because she likes it too.)
As we go through our parenting journey we are learning there are certain essentials and this, ioho, is one of them.

The reason for a 4 star rating: Use caution if blending liquids as they tend to foam up and flow out under the blade/whisk and into the motor housing. This happened to me. After letting it dry out for a few days, it's working fine. And the hot chocolate was delicious, although I will use a larger blender next time! So be careful! This could happen with any food processor, large or small. This is a pleasure to use! Chop an onion in seconds, make bread crumbs instantly, many other uses. I recommend it!

I can use it and put it in the dishwasher. After using it, bought a second on for my son that does a lot of cooking also. He also gives it good grades. It is not for chopping a whole onion but when you need a quarter cup or a few tablespoons it is excellent.

(More customer reviews)I wanted a small little chopper to make my own salsa..just a few cups at a time, and this one fills that bill okay. The one problem I have is it does not chop up the tomatoes completely. After running it PLENTY of times and dumping out the salsa, there are always BIG chunks of tomatoes unchopped in the mix. I end up putting those chunks BACK in the chopper and hitting them again. A minor little glitch,but slightly annoying. I have to experiment with putting less material in the chopper and see if that helps...but then I end up taking just as long and is equal trouble as rechopping the unchopped pieces. Also, it doesn't really "chop" up the food. It is more of a blender type consistency when its done.

I think the directions need to be more detailed, and come with more specific water amounts to add for the fruits/veggies. The blade is very sharp and works well, I am pleased with the overall performance of the product. I have sucessfully made several meals with the machine. Compared to the significant price break vs. the competitor version of this (which my friend has) I feel I can do all the things with my machine and feel like I got a good value. I am enjoying this product.

The good news: It chops evenly and efficiently, with a comfy plunging action.
The bad news: you have to take the entire chopper apart in order to clean it properly. There are multiple interior pieces and lots of nooks and crannies where food particles get trapped. And if you miss anything, it will mold in place (yuck.) We regularly needed hot soapy water, a toothbrush and about 10 minutes of scrubbing to clean everything out.
OXO has a deservedly great reputation for kitchen gadgets; this one needs a redesign for simplicity and easier cleaning.

(More customer reviews)I have had a few full-size food processors in the past -- both expensive and cheap models -- and the main complaints I had with them were: bulkiness, noise, and cleanup time. Over time, I realized that I was doing fewer and fewer things with the processor, and then finally, it got put away for good.
But lately, I found that I was chopping the same ingredients, in almost the same amounts, again and again.
So, on a whim, really, I decided to give the Kitchenaid 3-cup chopper a try. I own a number of Kitchenaid large appliances, and have always been satisfied. This food chopper is no exception, as it exceeds my expectations for handling my chopping drudgery. Be it onions, garlic, emulsifying dressing, making bread crumbs, chopping nuts, whatever.
This unit takes a very small amount of counter space, has a great look, stores its cord in the base, and its bowl and cover are dishwasher-safe.
This appliance is a nice time-saver, and that, in my opinion, makes it a great item.

I use mine quite frequently, and makes quick work of dicing onions and peppers for philly steaks or burgers. My brother and father have also since purchased these units. I have had mine going on 5 years now, not a problem with it. great value, good gift for cooks for one or two, who do not need a huge unit to chop stuff.

(More customer reviews)As a chopper to use on a daily basis, this is unbeatable. The blades are much more substantial than on other products of this size. However, you have to be very careful with the plastic bowl. The center section that holds the blade has begun to break. Currently half of the circular holder (in the middle) is gone. Although it will still hold the blade, if it breaks any more, it probably won't. I'm going to have to find a replacement for the plastic bowl. October 18, 2005 update: Guess what? I contacted Black & Decker online, and they have a company that they refer you to that handles their replacement parts. In this case they are sending me a complimentary new 3 cup plastic bowl. I wish I could change my rating upward; this is real customer service. July 5, 2007 update: Since I received the replacement bowl, I have used this appliance constantly, that is, three to five times a week. I have had no problems with the center section of the replacement bowl. February 8, 2008 update: Note that when Amazon runs this item for $12.99, it is really a screaming deal.

(More customer reviews)It chops garlic (skin on), jalapeno, and other hot chilli peppers brilliantly without leaving the harsh scent on your hands. Unfortunately, the blades are too flimsy and too dull to cut anything else. When I attempted to chop an onion, the blades merely bruised the onion, or left pieces of onion lodged between the blades. This even occurred after cutting the onion into smaller pieces, as recommended by other users. The compartment space is small, and the cap on the bottom of the compartment prevents the blades from working properly. In order to use this product effectively, you must remove the cap, and use a cutting board (thereby releasing the scent of whatever you are chopping, and rendering the cap feature useless). Unless using this solely for the purposes of chopping garlic, scallions, jalapeno, and the like, I would not recommend this product.
