Simply Calphalon Nonstick 13-Inch Round Grill Pan Review

I purchased this grill pan based upon it's best-in-class review from Cook's Illustrated. I have no regrets. This pan delivers excellent grill marks to meats and vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised by the large cooking area this round pan offers. In addition to performance, the price of this pan is hard to beat. It's an excellent addition to any kitchen.

RSVP Endurance Oil Mister Review

I copied this from Dr. Gourmet's webpage. He is an awesome Doctor/Chef who occasionally writes reviews of good things he has found. Here is what he said,
I was in the store recently and found the RSVP Endurance Oil Mister, which intrigued me. First of all, it was clear. Misto (I think) had a clear sprayer a few years ago that I didn't use, but this is a great idea because you know exactly how much oil to put in the canister. This is key because if you put too much in there's not enough airspace to create pressure to make the spray effective.
The best part of this sprayer is the spray itself. One of my complaints about the refillable sprayers is that the cans you buy in the grocery, like Pam, have a reliable spray mist, while the pump sprayers I have used in the past are kind of wimpy, with a spitting and spurting that doesn't allow for even coverage. The Endurance has a good strong spray mist. Not quite as good as Pam, or other spray cans, but more than good enough, considering everything saved by having a reusable spray can.

The RSVP Endurance Oil Mister is the tool to use to minimize the amount of fat in cooking. The oil sprayer allows you to choose your own oil to spray as a fine mist on pans prior to cooking or baking. You can also make herb flavored oil to spray on salads or vegetables for a dressing with less oil and more taste. The unique fine screen filter is designed to prevent clogs by blocking herbs or other seasonings from entering the narrow spray tube. The high-impact plastic bottle allows you to see how much and what kind of oil is inside. Capacity: 3 oz.

Global G-2 8-Inch 20cm Cook's Knife Review

This is one of the first global knives I bought. I loved it the first time I held it in my hands. What impressed me most was the perfect balance, the lightweight, and the sharpness. However, what may be perfect for me may not be perfect for you. I'd recommend anyone who is shopping for cutlery to go to a store and try how the knife feels in your hands before buying. And if you can borrow from a friend to try, that's even better.
Having used this knife for several years now, my initial impressions haven't changed. This is still my favorite knife for most tasks. I maintain it regularly with a steel and it is as sharp as it ever was. I have found though that for certain tasks like cutting slits into an onion for dicing or cutting root vegetables, I do prefer a heavier knife (that's why I bought another forged global knife), but that is just personal preference. All in all, a great general purpose kitchen knife.

Pomaireware Clay Steamer Pot with Insert and Lid Review

Pomaireware Clay Steamer Pot with Insert and Lid

Just got a replacement for this clay steamer pot. The last one was damaged after being shipped to me overseas and then accidentaly sent to a wrong address (NO fault of Amazon or the supplier). Pot #2 came in rather quickly. Heck, I didn't even think they waited for the broken one to reach them, just sent another one. It's a lovely piece of art and weighs lighter than I thought. I think it weighs less than my heavy bottomed stock pot.
It said that seasoning was not necessary and a diffuser in not needed either in a ceramic stovetop. Cool, so I just sauteed and made a Filipino peanut butter based stew in it. Boy, if you have a ceramic flat top, you know it takes longer to heat anything. This pot does take a while to get to a hot temp but as soon as it's up there, the stew took a long time to cool down (to our favor, of course). The unusual smell that one reviewer noted in another Pomaireware pot was present but lessened when I washed it. It was still there when I was cooking and later when I washed and scrubbed the food bits out. It didn't interfere at all with the taste. Yes, it's true the lid doesn't quite sit perfectly flush and air/steam tight on the pot but that's all because it didn't come from a factory.
There is one slight drawback to the design. The flat area in the base is not wide enough to sit on a large element on the stove. I placed it on the small 6" one that's why it took too long to heat the water. If I do place it in a large one, I think a lot of energy will be wasted. I'll give it a shot next time. But! I bet it'll work a lot better if my stove were a gas one with the flames being able to circle it better.
All in all, I'm very happy with it and considering buying the pig casserole pan when I get back stateside.
Nov 2010 update: I made a potful of sauteed butternut squash in ten minutes!! This time I used the bigger burner and the pot got hot quicker and acted like any of the other stainless pots I've use. And the veggies stayed hot all the way 'til the end of our meal, didn't need to reheat any in the microwave. Then again, I kept the pot covered BUT was still just sitting on a cold burner.
