(More customer reviews)I recently needed to cut a mountain of apples for a party. I knew that not all apple dividers were created equal and I wanted to have the best one. So I went out and bought three different ones to test before the big day. I wasn't crazy about the OXO's looks (I preferred the sleek stainless steel model I found for triple the price at Williams Sonoma), but in terms of utility--and honestly what other criterion should an apple divider be rated on?--the OXO divider was hands down the best. It slices the apple into 8 slices rather than 12. The fact that it cuts fewer slices makes the divider easier to use. Also the center hole for the core was just slightly larger than on the other two models I tried and that made it so that I needed to do fewer touchups with the knife on the OXO sliced apples. Also, the greater ease of cutting made it easier to cut straight slices, rather than wavy, uneven ones. The rubber handles are good because if you must cut a lot of apples rather than just one, the slipperiness of the juice can become an issue.

(More customer reviews)The Rotato Express, when it works, makes peeling potatoes and other veggies a breeze. It's especially great when making large batches of potatoes or turnips -- all that peeling can really be a hassle sometimes. The Rotato can turn a big job into a fast job and save you a lot of time in the kitchen. When it works.
The problem is, well, it doesn't always work. The build quality of this thing is cheaper than cheap. The blades pop loose easily because the plastic clips they're attached to are flimsy. Veggies with hard peels will constantly jerk the blades out. Even worse, the spring on the arm of my device popped loose after about two months of medium use. This renders the device useless unless you can manage to reinsert the spring (not an easy job).
At the cheap price, you could almost consider it a disposable item and just grab a new Rotato, but that's just too darn wasteful for such a big hunk of plastic.
If they delivered a better unit, even for $10-15 bucks more, I could heartily recommend this device for people who enjoy potatoes, turnips, or any other veggies that need a lot of peeling. As it is, it might be worth a look, but convenience comes with headaches.

I've been peeling, coring, and slicing apples by hand for years, but this takes all the hard work out of my favorite desserts. In seconds, the apple is all clean and ready to bake. Great for pears, too. I have a dehydrator and I've made dried pears and apples for Christmas gifts for people this year using this handy device. I even got my boyfriend to help me because it's so fun to use...and he never cooks!
All of the blades are replaceable, so there is nothing to every wear out. I'm assuming this is the cast iron version of the device. I can't vouch for the aluminum version. The cast iron model is like something my grandmother would have had...rare to find this kind of quality in a gadget these days. No plastic!
