Garrett Juice Folliar Plant Food - Qt. Review

(More customer reviews)If you're a fan of Howard Garrett, the Dirt Doctor, you already know what Garrett Juice is. It's his own concoction of compost tea, vinegar and molasses. You can make this foliar drink yourself, and he even has the recipe on his website.
But if you're like me, you find staying on top of compost tea brewing to be somewhat of a chore. There's the whole issue of aerobic versus anaerobic tea and buying or building a system with air pumps. And you have to tend the tea, then strain it. If you don't have a lab at your disposal, you're never entirely sure what's in your tea.
This is the lazy man's compost tea, and it's good stuff. I still mix up my own batches throughout the season, but I rely on this. All I have to do is mix it with water and spray. Of course every plant loves compost tea. There really is no better friend to any gardener, organic or not.
One word of warning, that I've learned the hard way. If you leave your products outside, make sure they're in a container that is squirrel proof. My squirrels think this is a tasty snack and will chew open the bottle. I don't know if they actually drink it, but it's a heartbreaker to go outside and find the drained bottle.
Whether you're a gardener who doesn't want to brew your own tea at all (or you don't make your own compost), or like me, you want something quick and easy as an adjunct to your own brews, Garrett Juice is an inexpensive - and trusted - addition.
My only complaint is that only a couple of stores online sell it. If you happen to live in Texas, you can find it at a few brick and mortar stores as well. I hope one day, we'll see this product in all organic gardening stores!

Spray the product at sundown and it will wipe out all the bad plant eaters. I applied two treatments. Had I known about this product earlier in the year I could have saved the majority of the squash plants I had to destroy because of multiple worm issues. This is also the safest insecticide you can buy. I base that statement on many years as a professional pest control technician.

Description: Spinosad is a relatively new insect killer that was discovered from soil in an abandoned rum distillery in 1982. Produced by fermentation, Spinosad can be used on outdoor ornamentals, lawns, vegetables and fruit trees, to control caterpillars, thrips, leafminers, borers, fruit flies, and more. Spinosad must be ingested by the insect, therefore it has little effect on sucking insects and non-target predatory insects. Spinosad is relatively fast acting. The pest insect dies within 1 to 2 days after ingesting the active ingredient. Will not persist in the environment. Sunlight and soil microbes break it down into carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen. Classified as an organic substance by the USDA National Organic Standards Board. Now that I live int he north-woods of Wisconsin I find that the only place in Wisconsin that carries them is in Madison WI a 5 hour drive south of me. I pay more for shipping than the fertilizer costs but it's worth it. They use almost all organic sources - blood meal, green sand and rock phosphate - all very slow release so they don't end up in the aquifer.

I read how corn gluten in a natural herb aside and can be used to prevent crab grass & weed seeds from germinating so i gave Bradfield Organics Luscious Lawn Corn Gluten fertilizer a try. Feed my lawn mid March and May before we left for our vacation. It's July 8th and not one bit of crab grass is in my lawn and overall look of the lawn is great. Very few broad leaf weeds made it past but the corn gluten but only a few. I must say this will stay a staple in my lawn program. I will use this again like i have and finish off the season with my old staple Ringer Lawn Restore since you can't seed for 90 days after applying a corn gluten based fertilizer.
