Green Arbor 8938 Organic Herb Windowsill Garden Kit Review

(More customer reviews)I received these for Christmas and was excited to use them. The product description doesn't say, but the kit includes 4 seed packets. The herbs included in mine were cilantro, oregano, parsley and chives, though I'm not sure if it is the same for every kit.
My first complaint is that the instructions were a bit off. The kit comes with soil pellets, and instructs you to mix them all up together in a big bowl, using water to help break them down. But using all the pellets made A LOT of dirt--twice as much at least as what I needed to fill the four small pots. Now I have a big bowl of leftover soil and nothing to do with it, when just leaving out half the pellets would have been easy and simple.
My second complaint is that two of the pots have cracked. They are "biodegrable," sure, but does that mean they should already be degrading? I've been using them for two days. My only theory is that in my windowsill it gets warm during the day and chilly at night, so this might just be a temperature change thing. Still, that's lame and I call BS if that's how that works.
Anyway, I still really like the gift and am excited to grow herbs and the container comes with a plastic liner that means I wont have thos ugly brown water/soil stains all over. It's a cute idea and it looks nice. So I give it two stars.

(More customer reviews)I have 100% germination. The netting was like paper; after it was wet it was easy to rip open with my fingers in the instances where it didn't rip itself open during the expansion phase. I bought a different brand of pellets at another store and they aren't nearly as nice.

(More customer reviews)The kit arrived VERY quickly, and I got planting right away. The little peat pellets are a very clever way to start seedlings. I'll be using them more in the spring to start my regular garden. The instructions vary for each different type of seed, and most of my seeds sprouted quickly. There was one that didn't come up, but there is plenty of additional starter pellets and seed to do a second, and maybe even a third planting, so no worries. The little seedlings are growing every day! It's pretty fun ;-)
