(More customer reviews)I rec'd the can rack today and was immediately turned off by the flimsy structure. Placing several cans on it makes the center bow down and it does NOT hold as many cans as it claims (maybe if they were all very small cans) but certainly not your standard 15 oz veggie cans. While it's nice to have some organization to my pantry, I just don't think it's worth the money spent - next time I'll spend a few more bucks for the chrome rack that is available.

Ultomato Tom Cage Review

(More customer reviews)This is the world's best tomato cage, hands down. As another reviewer stated, if you've forgotten to stake or cage your tomatos, you can snap this one around an existing tomato without doing any damage to the plant. Try that with a wire cage! I also like that the side arms are movable so you can adjust it to support different branches (like if one is heavily laden with fruit, etc).
It is VERY sturdy. I have had wire cages burst open somehow due to the weight of the plant and this Poly cage won't. The stakes also are pretty tough to bend. (I once tried pounding a stake into a slab of cement hidden under the soil and only after several hits with the hammer did I notice any bending in the pole.)
You may be a little put off with a price of $5 when you can buy slightly smaller wire cages for $1, but it's well worth it. You can reuse for years without any noticable changes, it stores flat, unlike wire cages that take up a lot of space and rust, and if you are growing something larger than your average tomato, you can combine two or more sets of stakes to create a hexagon. It's also taller than your average cyclone type wire cage which is great for indeterminate tomato types.
I purchased one at Home Depot 3 years ago and was so impressed that I went out and bought 3 more (one for my sister, two more for me!) I also use it to stake cucumbers, and this year will try to trelis mini pumpkins with it. Honestly, if you make the move to the Ultomato cage, you will be thrilled with your results and revel in the day you throw away your rusty and bent wire cages.

KitchenAid FPPA Mixer Attachment Pack for Stand Mixers Review

(More customer reviews)I have a KitchenAid and I must say, they are as good as their high reputation. I bought the mixer mainly to make bread, but what makes it even better are the accessories. These convert the stand mixer/dough maker into a vegetable processor, grinder and sausage maker. There is also a grain grinder that really works quite well. Here are the pros and cons of this set, as I see it:
Pros:
You get a decent meat grinder with two blades, coarse and fine. This means you can make ground turkey with no additives, ground chicken without added fat, or fresh ground beef. You can also grind meat for sausage (about which, later.)
You get a slicer similar to those hand-turned cone types that make cole slaw or waffled carrot slices.
Cons:
The sausage nozzle for filling the casings is not included. This is, in my opinion, really dumb. It's just a couple of pieces of molded plastic. For heaven's sake, include it.
The slicer is a bit clunky. If you don't put the bowl to catch the shreds just right, you get slaw all over. And sometimes it is hard to get the cone off the flanges of the connecting pin that fits into the mixer attachment point. But screwing it into the mixer and grabbing with a rubber mat usually works for me.
I prefer a mandoline, a food processor or even a big board and a really sharp chef's knife to the slicer, but it does save on counter space. So, this is a good thing to have as an addition to your KitchenAid if you do any kind of prep cooking, such as canning, salads, baby foods, venison processing, or sausages. It's very good quality plastic and metal, though the cone blade finish seems a bit crude to me. I can recommend it, with the reservations I mentioned.

KitchenAid FVSP Fruit and Vegetable Strainer Parts for Food Grinder Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this attachment to go along with the food grinder attachment (sold separately.) Wow - I can't believe how quickly I can make fresh applesauce. I simmer quartered apples - seeds, cores, peels, and all - until tender, then send them through the strainer. In minutes, I have fresh, hot applesauce. The refuse is expelled through the end and into another bowl, so you never have to worry about all that peeling and coring.
Tomato sauce? Just as easy. Fresh quartered tomatoes go in one end; the juice/pulp and the seeds come out separately. After that, it's only a matter of cooking the sauce down.
The strainer is a great addition to my kitchen.
