I love these steamers. I used the larger one for tamales and it worked great (holds about 25-30 tamales). I can't believe how nice these are for the price - what a great find!

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 8-Quart Pot with Glass Lid and 2 Inserts Review

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless 8-Quart Pot with Glass Lid and 2 Inserts

After stocking up on Calphalon cookware through Amazon, I almost purchased this item after reading the official Amazon review. Fortunately, I examined one while browsing a local store, and saw that only the bottom was aluminum core, not the sides, and the bottom was impact-bonded with a seam. Examine the Amazon close-up picture and you also can easily see the seam at the bottom.
The box I looked at clearly stated this as well. The multi-pot that I examined was definitely Calphalon Contemporary Stainless, not the less expensive Simply Calphalon series. This is not the 8-quart stockpot, which is much more expensive, and does not come with any inserts.
I am purchasing the Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless 8-quart stockpot instead, and finding an after-market stainless steel steamer insert. The inserts for this pan and the Simply Calphalon Stainless 8-quart multi-pot do not fit the Tri-Ply. The two pasta inserts that Calphalon offers for sale alone are for the professional and contemporary stainless stockpots only, and also do not fit the Tri-Ply.
The official Amazon review needs to be revised.

Granite Ware 7 Quart Blancher Review

Granite Ware 7 Quart Blancher

I gave this blancher only 2 stars because of the poorly welded handles. I went to pick up the blancher (minus the colander insert) and pour out the very hot water left over from blanching peas and just happened to notice, thank goodness, that the handle was half off of the pot. Had I not noticed I would have been scalded when the handle broke and the water spilled all over me. Other than that (!) the blancher is fine. So be careful and inspect the handles of this product if you decide to buy one. No matter the price the handles should be safely adhered to the canner. Consumers are dealing with extremely hot water!

This 7 -1/4 Qt blancher is perfect for preparing all your fruits and vegetables for cold pack canning or freezing. The high efficiency, quick boiling performance combined with the modest cost makes this pot ideal for canning. Constructed of porcelain on low carbon steel. Porcelain enamel is the result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a durable vitreous coating on a carbon steel core. It creates a smooth, hard finish that won\'t burn and resists staining. It\'s also non -porous so it won\'t trap odors or food particles and provides a low coefficient of friction – meaning that it cleans up easily and, it is corrosion and chemically resistant so it will last a long time. When fired, the vessel is placed on pins so the bottom and sides are hardened during the firing process into one smooth laminated glass surface. You may notice slight pin indentations where the glass has flowed around the pin that supports the base during firing. The pin marks do not compromise the finish or performance of the vessel in any way but you should take additional care in handling if using on glass top stove.
