1) It has a non-stick surface making clean-up relatively easy. Just make sure, like with any non-stick cookware, that you use wood or plastic/rubber utensils and cleaning gear.
2) The device has its own canister for any liquids you wish to use. It has an extension as part of the canister that's perforated to let the steam saturate a larger area of the bird's inside cavity. I've not tried it yet, but am going to soak hickory chips in the canister ahead of cooking and then use a smaller amount of liquid. I'm hoping it will smoke the bird from the inside as well.
3) the base is perforated to drain away fats but lets enough remain to help baste any vegetables or other foods being cooked.
4) you want to bake indirectly with this, so plan on banking your coals to the sides of the grill. We used ours on a traditional Weber kettle grill that has baskets for the coals for indirect cooking.
5) cooking times are going to be dependent upon the fire and the bird's size, so use a meat thermometer and place it in a deep section of meat where it will read a core temp rather than surface.
6) there was plenty of room between the bird and the cover on our Weber kettle. Another style of charcoal grill might be different.
7) have a platter ready for when the cooking is done. Since the bottom of the roaster is perforated, it will drip grease anywhere you go if you just try to carry it. So, set the cooker, bird and all, on a platter to move it.
This is a nice improvement over the "beer can" method. It's sturdy and supports the bird nicely. The handles, when used with hot pads or mittens are, well, handy. It's a nice accessory for less than a $20 bill.

(More customer reviews)So far we've used the roaster with dark brown beer and Sangria wine. Both chickens turned out delicious with crispy outsides and moist (even the breast) insides. We cooked the birds to an internal temp of 180 degrees (at the deepest part of the thigh). The beer "roaster" was cooked at 400 (came out the crispest) and the Sangria "roaster" was cooked at 350, on a gas grill, cover down, as per the instuctions included with the product (watch those wings!). We turned the tray 180 degrees every 30 minutes until done. Our next venture is with unsweetened apple juice (made from frozen concentrate). I guess it goes without saying, we love this Camerons cooking device! P.S...we also cooked baked potatoes on the device while roasting the hens, which were also delicious.

It is very nice to cook something like onions or shrimp on the grill and not have them fall thru the grates. (More customer reviews)I am very pleased with this product. I have the smaller Foreman Grill but needed something larger and this was it. With removable grills, the clean up was much easier than the Foreman grill. Another advantage of this grill over the Foreman grills is the oil drainage trays are built inside and do not just sit on the counter waiting to be knocked over. Make sure to spray the trays with cooking oil prior to using.I have cooked 2-3 lb London Broils, semi boneless steaks, chicken breast and ground beef with this grill and love it. I used it twice just this weekend and am really pleased.It is not 100% the same as outdoor BBQ grilling but for indoors year round cooking, it is fine.

(More customer reviews)I've used this basket once. The metal loop that holds the lid closed slipped off, and I dumped half my dinner into the grill and on the ground.
I'm looking forward to using this several times a week. I can cut food into smaller pieces and toss them into the basket to cook, allowing them to cook faster and saving fuel (and making dinner happen faster!) But first I've got to figure out how to keep the top in place.

You know i did not want the flimsy type tongs that bend when you pick up ribs...or worse the wood rot off after 2 uses. But these are very sturdy, and the wood is thick they should last a long time. There are grooves in the wood handles that give your fingers and thumb places to sit. They are ergonomically comfortable. i look forward to years of grilling with these

I didn't think the short handle would be an issue - actually it can be a bit uncomfortable on a very hot grill, but especially if I leave it next the grill while it's warming up so that the handle is hot already.
So if I don;t do that it's fine.

Outset A902, Replacement bristles for QT40, QB40 & QB45 Review

(More customer reviews)I bought both the brush and the replacement bristles at the same time, since I had purchased another BBQ piece from these people and thought it was good quality (we gave it as a gift...but it looked high quality). This brush is a joke. I used it once...I mean, literally, I brushed it across my Weber Genesis and the bristles started coming out. I would say about 25% of the bristles came out after continuing for another 5 seconds. The grill was very hot...so maybe that softened the plastic that holds the bristles, or maybe it loosened the glue that they used on the bristles. I'm not really sure what it was, but I returned this lousy piece of junk and I won't ever purchase anything from this company again. Seeing their products in stores now, I can see why they have done well. Good packaging, and modern design and materials give it a high quality impression. I returned everything, the brushes, the replacement brushes, and even two other products from them.
So now, I am left without any brush. Basically, I can buy the cheapy ones that get nasty after a while and I have to throw away, or I can continue to use my tongs or a spatula edge to scrape of the debris. Maybe that is the right way to address grill debris anyway...a brush will always wear out.

(More customer reviews)The baskets are OK; I would not rely on the non-stick coating as stuff still sticks; easily solved with a light application of cooking oil. Pretty handy for turning over food that might be too small to put directly on the grill. I used these on a gas grill so I could not close the lid to keep the heat up.
The metal clip holding the top to the rest of the basket is pretty flimsy; count on having to replace it fairly soon with a wire (hint: a paperclip straightened out and then wrapped through the end works quite well).

Outset QN71 Copper Nonstick Large 17" x 11" Grill Grid with Handles Review

(More customer reviews)Appeared to be a solid grill topper upon arrival. Outset even has a nice website describing their products (unlike many other brands). Outset even advertised their other products with the same copper coating with good reviews from some food magazine. Upon first use, I was very surprised to see it warped under moderate heat (350F). After it cooled down, it bent back in shape. It was fairly easy to clean after 1st use. Then with 2nd grilling, the food started to stick terribly. I was unable to clean the charcoal mess left on the grill topper. I even left it soaked in soapy water overnight, and was still unable to clean it easily afterwards. I tried to use regular soft dish washing scrubber to clean off the charcoal mess, then discovered some of the nonstick copper-tone "double coat" silicone coating came off! I trashed this piece of junk, as I don't want my family risk eating this non-stick silicone stuff! One of the worst purchases ever! I plan to get a plain stainless steel grill topper next time. It may not be easy to clean, but I can at least use some heavy duty scrubber on it and not worry about any type of nonstick coating coming off...

It looks crappy but works fine still. Given the nice weight and balance and the very long handle, I would otherwise have given this item five stars.
