This USED to be a great product and now it is ruined by some bean counter in corporate no doubt ...... goodbye to this mix.

(More customer reviews)Growing up, my mom always made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, but at some point, the recipe was lost, and I was never able to replicate them with other recipes I found. Betty Crocker's oatmeal cookie mix replicates them perfectly, and the secret ingredient in this mix is CINNAMON. BC's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip mix doesn't have cinnamon in it, so I use this Oatmeal cookie mix instead and add 3/4 cup chocolate chips to it. They are so good! My husband, siblings, and parents all devour these cookies. Amazon's price is the best, better than my local grocery store.
** UPDATE ** I thought I'd try making these cookies as bar cookies, rather than scooping and dropping onto a cookie sheet. I used an 8x8 square Pyrex pan, kept the temperature the same, but baked for 23-25 minutes. I personally didn't think they were done, too much still like cookie dough in the middle, but my husband liked them and ate the entire pan, without getting sick, I might add. This is something I just thought those of you might want to know, in case you were thinking of making these as bar cookies. I'll use a 9x13 pan next time, I think they'd come out great.

In our family, we always make them as peanut butter blossoms, rolled in sugar before baking, and then with a hershey kiss placed in the center of the cookie right after they come out of the oven. (Tip: as the kiss starts melting after a minute or two, gently push the kiss down.... this makes the entire kiss come into contact with the hot cookie. This way, the kiss will soften into a puddle of chocolate, and will stick better to the cookie, instead of popping off as you move the cookies around.)
I'm eating these pb blossoms as we speak!
To say how good they are, I made these for a homeowner's association meeting a few years ago, and the president of the association disliked me quite a bit (I tore up part of my front lawn to plant a flower garden without getting his permission in writing first.... flower planting rebel that I am!). However, he devoured these cookies, raving about how good they were and that I should start a bakery! Of course, I told him I made them from scratch. ^_^
Another tip, the package gives a time range for how long you should bake these, and in my personal experience living in a place that had incredibly dry air in the cold winter, I baked these cookies on the low end of that time range. If I didn't, they stood a greater chance of drying out when I placed them out for company. The cookies I'm eating right now, my sister baked them for the longer time listed in the time range, but we now live in a damp, rainy winter kind of place, and they didn't dry out. Of course, this might be simply due to differences in ovens, but I thought I'd throw my humidity speculation out there for you, just in case.
BTW, amazon has the *best* price on these! I normally pay about $3.50 a package at my local grocery store.

This came out perfect--it is still really moist after storing it in the fridge for a few days. You do have to add a stick of butter so it's not good for the health-conscious, but if you want a really moist, sweet cake in a basic yellow cake recipe, this is definitely it! Will definitely use it again!

(More customer reviews)My absolute favorite is German Chocolate Cake but I've found it to be a mix that can often turn out dry. That is not what I want in a cake. My sister-in-law substituted chocolate cake mix last summer and that is our new tradition.
This mix is my family's favorite because it is just what it says... SUPER MOIST. The rich chocolate flavor compliments my Grandmother's recipe for homemade buttery, pecan and coconut frosting. Add a thin layer of warm frosting to the cake layers and let it soak in deep. Once the frosting is cooled, frost as usual. I make a three layer cake in a heart shaped pan then display it in a glass domed cake plate. This cake is warm, soft and delicious served the same day and even more flavorful the next day.
The kids love the cake mix when you add chocolate chips and make cupcakes. Vanilla frosting and sprinkles top off their favorite.
More recently I used it to make a chocolate gooey butter cake. Made the recipe as written but substituted chocolate cake mix for the yellow cake mix the recipe called for and added mini semi-sweet chocolate chips to the cream cheese topping. Rich and decadent. Yum.
