(More customer reviews)I have made the Mrs. Wages Spaghetti Sauce (now called Pasta Sauce) in two ways. The first one is the way the package requires - and it makes a very nice sauce. Both my husband and I like it better than most of the ones available in the store.
The second time I made it, I added ground beef and used the pressure cooking method instead of the water bath. It made a wonderful treat to just be able to open a jar, heat it, and pour it over my spaghetti. It is always recommended that you cook low-acid items or meat products that have been canned for ten minutes - which is just the perfect amount of time for me to cook the spaghetti.
I can the mixture of meat and sauce in larger jars (quarts), but make the sauce itself in pint-size jars, since I am normally making only 2 servings.
***Note - before making the adjustments to the recipe, I went to my extension office and spoke with someone with professional experience, since canning is a precise balance of acid and cooking time to ensure safety.
I especially appreciate the Mrs. Wages recipes because she gives directions for both fresh tomatoes and canned options. Also, while the recipe calls for sugar, it is always an option to substitute Splenda for those who are diabetic.
