White Stoneware Kitchen Compost Pail Review

This product was chosen because it matched the kitchen decor.
My complaints are:
1. It's too small (my fault)
2. There is a recess at the bottom that makes it difficult to clean if a bag isn't used.
3. If a bag is used, the lid seal tends to push the bag into the pail. There is no built-in way to secure the bag if it laps over the rim -- a very big rubber band wrapped around the lip will work, but is inconvenient and unsightly. (One could close the top of the bag with each use, but that would make using the pail an inconvenient two-handed operation.)
4. The lid inserts far enough into the pail to pick up adhering debris (e.g. coffee grounds), which find their way to the counter top at the next use.

Instead of throwing all of your food scraps away, you can store them in this attractive compost pail. The stoneware pail allows for a stylish and odor-free way of storing these useful scraps. The lid contains two charcoal filters so you'll never know what lies inside this sleek pail. The convenient handle makes carrying three quarts worth of potato peels, egg shells, coffee grounds and citrus peels to your garden compost heap. This pail is perfect for any kitchen countertop to disguise odors and hide the unpleasant sight of garbage.

RSVP Stoneware Compost Pail - Black Review

RSVP Stoneware Compost Pail - Black

We have had this for about 4 months now to collect our veg and eggshell garbage to feed a worm farm to make good growing dirt since we live in very sandy ground area. It gets emptied when it gets full (about every 5 days). No odors, no flies, and with the biodegradable liners and the charcoal filters it's very easy to keep clean.
I do wish it were a bit larger because sometimes it doesn't get emptied when it's full and we have to spill garbage over into a plastic container until the worm farm is ready to accept more garbage. So I'm ordering another one. I have no complaints of it being too heavy or too light, the handle has plastic protection so as not to scratch/bruise the stoneware. I have had other RSVP products and they were all excellent quality, so now I'm torn between another black stoneware pail or the RSVP stainless steel pail which is a bit larger. Which ever I choose I expect to be pleased.

Norpro Ceramic Compost Keeper Review

We bought this thinking it would look better than stainless steel. We love to compost and this pail sure beats keeping a bucket on the counter. However, it is heavy and the handle is poorly made. When you life up the handle it comes off of the clunky clips on the side. This really needs to be redesigned.
We removed the poor handle after the first trip to the compost. The ceramic is not only heavy, but it is also much harder to keep clean that the stainless steel. The ceramic tends to pick up stains which are hard to scrub out. And of course there is always the fear of breaking it.
As long as the filter is kept clean and fresh, the pail emits no odors. Whether you choose stainless steel or ceramic, make sure you buy some extra filters. You'll be happy you did.

In addition to being perfectly sized for collecting food scraps for your garden or municipal composter--from potato peels and carrot tops to egg shells and coffee grounds--this 1-gallon compost keeper from Norpro also offers an attractive look for your kitchen. It features a smoother ceramic exterior in red that's also easy to clean. The tight fitting lid works in concert with an included charcoal filter to keep odors in the pail and not wafting through your kitchen. It also features a sturdy stainless steel handle. It measures 10-1/2 by 8 by 7-1/4 inches (HxWxD). The interior and exterior clean easily with soapy sponge.
